Bucks Still Have Antlers

Post by PABOWDUDE60 »

Here are the latest pics. I just checked the camera yesterday. It's hard to believe these Big Bucks still have their antlers. Some of the other bucks have already dropped. Hopefully I can find some of these sheds!

That cudde back takes nice pictures. I never would have guessed that any bucks here in Pa. still had their racks. Around here they will drop them pretty early. My daughter shot what she thought was a big doe a couple of years ago in Dec. and it turned out to be a buck. I've seen people dragging their bucks out by their racks have them pop off also. I've read that nutrition has a part to play in how long they keep them.

They still have them here in Virginia as well. They should be dropping very soon however and like you I'll be going after some sheds whenthey start dropping.

I still have another cam out at another spot. I haven't checked it in a couple weeks. I'll check it either tomorrow or Mon. I've only ever found 3 sheds. I guess if I can keep than in one area it should make it a little easier to find them when they drop.

Three of ours still had horns as of last week, I'm in northern MN. Generally speaking the non breeding bucks -who don't get as worn down by partying - keep their antlers longer but this long is unusual. Wonder of warm winter has something to do with it? Easier to get around, more food available.

2 more smaller bucks from last week. I spent 3 hrs up there looking for sheds yesterday. None found. I hauled another sack of corn up with me also.

It seems the healthy ones keep them longer every yr, when I say that I mean they would have shed by end of Jan. yrs back, there is a change in nature don't know what, saw four yesterday still with them I'll give it another week.

Got the SD card out of the only camera that I still have out this last weekend and a group of four bucks came to feeder and all four were still wearing horns. This is really late for us as I see bucks in Aprill turkey season that allready have new growth started and quite a bit. 3-4".

Looks like this year's button buck that has an edge over his peers. He will probably end up a nice 6 to 8 point 1 1/2 year old.
