Excal's very loud ?????

Post by Bullzeye »

So I took my X-Bow hunting course today (almost 7hrs long  ) and during the lunch break people were talking about their x-bows and whenever Excalibur was mentioned the guys who have been shooting x-bow for a long time all said " Excals are TOO loud"

I have not even had a chance to shoot my Exocet 200 yet so I could not comment. Just how much louder are the Excal bows???? and could it be that these people who are saying they are too loud have not shot one with the dissipator bars or the S5 suppression system ???? are the dissipater bars and S5 something new on Excals ??

Thats a common response from folks who shoot compound crossbows, and in comparison they are louder, BUT too loud? I dunno about that. Many of us manage to kill deer year after year with out derr jumping. They may have shot (or heard) an excal without the S5, but i suspect it was just an excuse to put someone else down like it usually is.

If anyone is ever concerned with a "loud excal" i suggest you get the S5 and a boo string with whiskers. With that combo the equinox is quiter than a vixen(without those items installed) when shot side by side.

A bit of noise is small price to pay for the accuracy & reliability of the Excalibur!

My Vixen is LOUD. Since I use my bow for 3D against faster bows I'd rather pick up a few FPS then try to quiet it.

Doesn't take long to get used to the noise and tune it out.

At a recent indoor shoot several vertical bow competitors complained about the noise and refused to shoot on the line with me. That's OK - the Vixen shot well and we were among the last ones standing at the end. :D

People seem to forget the arrow is fast enough that the sound doesnt matter unless you are taking a shot that is too long to be taken in the first place. My old Wolverine was loud compared to everyones newer Excals but since Ninepointer had an old bow too I just pretended it was his bow at he 3-D

That's it right there. The noise of an Excalibur may be more than that of other bows, but each to their own. If something messes up with my bow in the field, I can fix it. How many compound shooters can say that? If those same compound shooters don't cock their bow back all the way and the string latches on the anti-dry fire and won't shoot when the time comes, what are they going to do then?

There's an untold number of other things that can happen. Point is, I chose an Excalibur knowing that they weren't as fast as some others, a little heavier than some others, were a little louder than some others, but I chose the Excalibur anyway.

Besides, I've shot at 3 deer and killed 2 with mine (misjudged the yardage on the one I missed). Noise seems to bother "people" more than the deer.

Oh ya, they're way louder, but listen to this guy's 3rd shot and you'll see why compounds are so much quieter! I take shooting loud all day long over a compound!

Too funny! PAD! Now if that had been an Excalibur, he'd be good to go after he changed his shorts.

I finally got to shoot mine for the first time today and I think it's whisper quiet compared to all of my guns that I shoot and I bet my neighbors would agree !

Great, thanks for all your responses. I was just calculating in my head that the speed of sound is more than 3 times faster than the speed of my arrow, so of course I started thinking about all the comments I heard today.

With the attachments available today they are whisper quiet compared to years back .
The people who have been around bows for awhile can probably tell a story or two about a compound blowing up . Be it from a dryfire or limb failure .
I like the reliability of my recurve limbs . Obviously the other manufacturers think the same because they now are bringing out recurve limb bows as well .

That's what I figured that these guys tried an old Excal and have never tried one ever since.
