What Do Your Licenses Cost?

Post by Big58cal »

bugs' post about renewing her license got me to thinking. How much do all of ya'll pay for your license/tags each year? Also, just for conversation's sake, what would it cost a non-resident to come to your neck of the woods and hunt?

For me here in KY:
Combination Hunting/Fishing - $30
Spring Turkey Permit (2 turkeys) - $30
Deer Permit (2 deer) - $30
Bonus Antlerless Deer Permit (2 deer) - $15
Fall Turkey Permit (4 turkeys) - $30
Total for the stuff I buy: $135

Or, since I'm a resident, I can get a Sportsmans License for $95 (the Sportsmans License isn't available for non-residents) which includes:
Combo Hunting/Fishing
Deer Permit
Spring & Fall Turkey Permits
State Waterfowl Permit
Trout Permit

Add in the Bonus Antlerless Deer Permit ($15) and I'll be out $110 for the year.

As opposed, a non-resident just getting the licenses/permits I first mentioned:
Annual Hunting - $130
Spring Turkey Permit (2 turkeys) - $60
Deer Permit (2 deer) - $60
Bonus Antlerless Deer Permit (2 deer) - $15
Fall Turkey Permit (4 turkeys) - $60
Total for non-resident hunter: $325

So what about the rest of you folks?

I have had a lifetime license for years now in Georgia. Covers all hunting and fishing except Federal Duck Stamps. $500.00 for life.

Not sure about nonresident prices.

In Québec, once you obtain your hunting-trapping liscence you're set for good - it is a Permanent card.

Each time you pass a hunter's safety course for a specific category (firearm, xcrossbow, vertical bow and trapping), you automatically receive in the mail an updated card (granted that you've passed the exam) with a new designated certificate on it (F= firearm, A=vertical bow, B=xbow, etc). There's no cost to it either.

The only exception to that is the Wild Turkey certficate, that you do online - takes just a few hrs and you're also set for life. It's also a hard plastic card.

That said, these were the fees for most of the games hunting licenses for Residents and Non-Residents for 2011-12. I didn't put the cost of migratory birds in this list..

2011-2012
Residents.....Non-Residents
Caribou: $62.75.........$343.61
White-tailed deer (except île d'Anticosti): $50.67............$271.61
Antlerless white-tailed deer (random draw): $50.67. Permit for Residents only
White-tailed deer Zone 20 ( île d'Anticosti): $64.29....... $347.74
Wild turkey: $31.64.....Permit for Residents only
Moose: $56.59.....$352.88
Moose (adult cow) (random draw):$56.59.....Permit for Residents only
Black bear: $49.12.... $151.76
Small game (firearm and crossbow, bow, snare): $18.27......$86.93
(still trying to come up with something witty and interesting to add)

Been saving up extra money from here and there for a little while now. One day I'll make it to BC, be it with an outfitter (already found one that I like) or with someone I know who's a BC resident and who knows where the sheeps and goat are.

Be it a xbow, vertical bow or rifle hunt I don't care - though I would love to put my soon-to-come Cooper riffle up to the test in BC

In georgia the sportsman license is $55.00 and the non resident is $195.00, not a bad deal if you ask me even for a non resident. :)
A WMA stamp is $28.00 but comes with the sportsman license. Non resident's aren't eligible for a sportsman license. A non resident fishing license is $100.00.
It cost me $85.00 a year to hunt the military base, so all total i'm out $140.00 a year...time away from "she who must be obeyed"...PRICELESS :!:

Ohio resident ages 18-65 need:
Annual hunting - $19.
Annual fishing - 19.
Fur taker (for trapping and/or furbearer hunting) - 15.
Deer:
Either sex (up to 3 in my zone) - 24. (each)
Antlerless only (up to 3 in my zone) - 15. (each)
Turkey:
up to 2 spring & 1 fall - 24. (ea)
Waterfowl:
State OH wetlands - .15
Federal - 15.

If I hunted all critters and took the maximum allowed it would cost me $272.

This past year I spent $53 for the annual hunting/fishing/fur taker licenses and bought (and killed) one antlered deer (24.) and 2 antlerless (2x15. = 30.) for a total of $107.

Hopefully my son can contribute more to the "feeding the family" effort this year. It cost him $10. for a youth hunting license (no fishing license required) and only 12. ea for either sex deer permits. Oddly, the antlerless only deer permits cast the same 15. for youth?

5 more years before I can buy senior licenses at the same price as youth licenses, but only 7 years before he has to buy adult licenses.

Next weekend we will be at the local lake fishing for stocked rainbow trout for a change in diet. (cost me 24. for a license and he fishes for free)

A bit off the topic, but............
I'm always a bit amazed & bewildered at the event. The Wildlife Officer(s) write a surprising number of citations to people who are fishing with no license and/or taking over the limit (5/day) of trout.

Last year the officer came up behind me before he recognized me (he knows I'm always careful to have the proper licenses and obey the laws to the best of my ability & understanding). We chatted a few minutes and he commented, "See that guy in the chair by the boat ramp. He was setting there with a pole in his hands and the line in the water and tried to tell me he wasn't fishing! Claimed he was just holding the pole for the kids. He should have bought a license, it will cost him $78. and he could have avoided it by spending $24."

Another example is a couple who had caught their daily limit of 5 apiece and were checked by the officer as they were leaving. He checked their licenses and creel to assure they had only the limit of 10 trout (5 each) allowed. They left the lake, took the trout home, then came right back driving the same car and wearing the same clothes and proceeded to catch 10 more trout. Cost them a big fine, too.

Just to add to Ben's post on our provinces crazy prices, you left out "1st harvest antlerless deer (random draw)" this is the one I apply for and if you win this one it allows you to first kill a doe, then a buck ( must be in that order) and these are the costs.

$8 to enter the random draw
$50.67 to purchase the regular deer license
$20.58 if you win the random draw and want to participate in it.
$6-8 to register your deer(I forget exactly how much) if your lucky enough to harvest one(doe), and another $6-8 if you harvest the second deer (buck)

Total = approx $91.25 (depending on Registration cost) if you are lucky enough to harvest both a doe and a buck.

Now if you are going to hunt for the first time you need to take some courses.

$71 for the firearms course
$40 for your "hunting with a firearm" course
$45 for your "hunting with a cross bow" course
$54 for you "hunting with a bow" course

ahh and lets not forget another money grab, if you want to hunt turkey, you need to take a "hunting turkey" course for a fee of $64 which allows you ONE turkey per year.

In NC the Sportsman license costs $40, and runs on an annual basis from the day you buy it and includes the Big Game Permit which gets you 6 deer (4 can be antlered) 1 bear and 2 turkeys. It used to include 2 hogs but now they are free. Also gets you all inland fishing. From memory - I think if you add $35 that will give you all off-shore fishing as well. But the Big Game Harvest Permit runs out at the end of the season (Jan 1 usually). So if you don't plan properly (or move into the state late like I did) you can end up with a valid license and expired BG Permit and have to spend an extra $10. Bottom line is $40 -$50 will let you hunt alot of stuff. Coming from OH, I think this is a great deal.
Lifetime licenses (if you are 12 yrs old or older) are $500 - resident, $1000 non-resident, but that price gets cheaper the younger you are. Under 1 yr old, resident and non-resident lifetime licenses are $200, under 12 they are $350.

Arkansas has a disabled license, fishing and hunting, $35 for 3 years. We can either cut universal tags out of the game books at Wal-mart or download our own.

License? Aw... seriously you can get a "super combo" here in Texas which includes a hunting license, a fishing license, all the stamps for hunting( turkey, archery, state duck, etc.) all the stamps for fishing( salt water, trout) for 76.00 A Federal duck stamp is another 15.00 I believe. This includes all the tags as well.Shouldnt be anything else to buy license wise for a year.Guess its a real bargain, although when you shell out nearly a hundred bucks in Aug. it doesnt feel like it.
