2012 Spring Turkey Contest Sign Ups
OK folks, to have a little fun and add a bit of the "odd" to the normal hum-drum turkey contests, I'd figure we'd have one on here. It's not going to be the normal contest though.
Here's the thing, if you want in on it, you'll need to say so in this topic and you'll need to pay the entry fee up front. The actual fee has yet to be decided, but we'll get to that.
The thing about the fee is that it's kind of a 'pay-to-play' thing. Everyone chips in a little, I'll take all of the money and go shopping with it and get EVERYONE THAT ENTERED something, with the winner getting a little more. I'll usually cover the postage out of my own pocket, but it usually doesn't amount to much anyway. I've run several contests like this on another web site and we always have a good time and everyone is always pleasantly surprised with their stuff.
So who all wants in? Any legal weapon in your area is allowed (doesn't necessarily have to be a crossbow). What about the entry fee? $5, $10, $15, $20? What do you think it should be? When you sign up, say what you think the fee should be. Majority rules. BUT if for some reason you can't come up with the entry fee by the start, I'll spot you. Plus, if when the entry fee is decided, it's a little beyond your means, not to worry. We're all family here. We all take care of each other.
The thing about this contest is that it's going to be a little strange and get people involved, whether they're in the contest or not. Wait on the rules in a day or two and you'll see what I mean.
So who all is in??? Don't be skeered!

Well, I wouldn't mind being in. I think $10 is a fair donation. Sounds like fun, just let me know where to send the $$ and if a postal money order is ok.

* Bearded turkeys only (includes bearded hens)

* 2 turkeys allowed per person
Bonus Points
Weapon
* Rifle = 0
* Modern Shotgun = 1
* Muzzleloading Shotgun = 2
* Vertical Bow = 3
* Crossbow = 4
* Bare Hands and/or Knife = 5
Picture
* No Picture = 0
* Turkey Only = 1
* Turkey in natural surroundings = 2
* Turkey in natural surroundings w/ weapon = 3
* Turkey in natural surroundings w/ weapon & hunter = 4
Picture Comments
* Members are encouraged to view and comment on pictures
* The most creative/original comment wins a prize.
Overall Best Picture
* After everything is said and done, we'll all try to come to a general concensus on who had the best picture. If there can't be a concensus, I'll decide among the top few.
Nothing really difficult or over the top. Even though this is a crossbow site, our job as hunters is to help promote and encourage any legal hunting implement. That's why the entries aren't limited to crossbow only. The bonus points for the pictures are to encourage people to remember to take a little time to snap a few memories of the hunt. I've seen previous contests decided by who took pictures and who didn't.
As for time line, what do you say starting today (3/20/12) since it's the first day of spring and ending 5/16/12? If someone's season runs longer than that, let me know.
If we've got at least about 5 people that want to do it, we'll have it.

I'd be interested in seeing that catch and release... I'm sure that bird would eff you up pretty good =D
Re: 2012 Spring Turkey Contest Sign Ups
Pretty much. Ain't no catch & release in this. You want catch and release, go fishing.flightattendant100 wrote:aint no catch and release!robertyb wrote:How many bonus points if I hide in a hole and grab them by the legs, take a picture and release them?
The entry fee is up to ya'll. We'll try to get a concensus on what it should be. Usually in the ones I've done in the past it's been anywhere between $5-$20. But keep in mind, the quality/quantity of the prizes will be directly proportional to the entry fee. I'm not making a dime off this. All of the money collected goes toward the prizes.
Yeah, flightattendant, your son can join in also. The more the merrier!
Since ya'lls season 'up nort' runs later, we'll run it up to June 6th, which is a Wednesday. That should give everyone enough time to get everything posted if they should happen to get one on the last day.
Also, just to clarify, each person can enter up to 2 turkeys, but it won't be a cumulative score for the person. The score for each turkey will stand by iteself. Also, since we're doing this over the internet, everyone is going to be on the honor system. Since hunters are NEVER known to exagerate things or stretch the truth.......... Please don't do it in this. I'd hate to have to hunt someone down and beat them with a rubber hose over fudging a little on a simple turkey contest.

Yeah 10 dollars is a fair amount . It also keeps people honest because they don`t stand to make a fortune .
I`ve got this turkey all lined up . Got him in a high fence enclosure . Feeding him growth hormones and rogaine for good beard growth .
