Oh YAAAA. Opening day.

Post by catcher »

Well we hit the turkey woods early in the am but with no luck , we only heard one bird gobble but it was way off in the distance. And we had to be at school early today due to a relay meet. So we snook out by 7 : 30 am for the walk back to the house. As I dropped the kids off to school I asked " do you guys want to try after school " They both replied " yes " So after school we walked back and set up . we were a little later than I liked but were hunting at 5:30 pm. I would give a few series of agressive calling with the mouth call every 15 minutes . And about 6 : 00 pm we heard a distant gobble. So I just kept up my calling every 15 minutes and then all of a sudden about 100 yards or so away he gobbled and he was comming fairly quick. This was 6:30 , I finally saw him sneaking through the woods at about 60 yards and he was heading to the field. Once he hit the field I let out a few content moans and some purring on the mouth call. and that poor old Turkey fell in love and he was comming down the field strutting and spitting the whole way in. At about 15 yards after I made sure both kids could see him he had a kiss from the number 5's. 20 gauge. The time 6:43 pm whew cutting it close. He is a nice 2 year old with a 9 1/4 inch beard and 3/4 inch spurs. The frist pic is with a regular pocket camera nd the second is from the Go Pro . I like the way it takes zoomed looking pics , it makes the turkey look huge. Gotta love opening day. YAAA.
