My freezer has been full of some great success that I have been blessed with over the past few years but I have never gotten around to mounting them due to inexperience and lack of time. After last season my son was pushing me to mount the Jake that he and I harvested on the last day of the season so I decided that I would make it a complete project to empty my freezer. I had done alot of reading on the "how to" but had never actually tried it so it was an adventure for the pair of us ...
I went to Bass Pro looking for the mount to purchase and was surprized to see the price at approx $50.00 each - I had five tails to mount and I just couldnt spend over $250.00 when I thought I could make them myself ... I grew up on a farm with all the wood working tools one could ever need but since moving to the city I do not have access to them anymore. So I took the $250.00 cost and waited for items to go on sale at Canadian Tire and purchased a band saw, drill press, and scroll saw for a little more than the mounts would have cost me. And so the project began ...
I started by copying and making a jig from one of the pro built mounts. My son followed right along with his ...

Now that the mounts were complete it was time to turn our attention to the tails ...

And Kevin kept pace with the old man ...

Now that the tails were done I started with the Spurs ...

When all was said and done my son put alot of hard work into his and it paid off:

And I finally have paid tribute to one of the magnificant animal that we are fortunate to hunt ...

Cheers,
Robin
