decocking mistake (learning the hard way 101)

Post by ParkerSxS »

Remember always use both hooks on the cocking rope with a hook on each side and the rope in the groove and the one handle hold. The wrong way, one hook on one side, holding one handle, my arm took the full force of a release. Needless to say I now need to buy a new rope cocker. The one handle hit the floor so hard it shattered it. Thank God it didn't hit my foot. The bow is fine, ego not so much. And yes it just had to happen during a 'show off the new bow session' in front of my son & father-in-law. Feelin low down to my toes

Glad to hear your o.k & there's no damage done other than ego.
Because these bows are such high quality i think it's easy to forget the basic's sometimes. They are & can be dangerous...good on you for posting your experience.

OUCH!!!!!! Glad you weren't hurt!

I'm paranoid when decocking especially in the dark after a hunt. I double check my hooks before I pull the trigger. Maybe a bit OCD, but...

Hey Parker there is a guy here on the forum, I think his name is Pydpiper and he fired his Exocet, twice I think, with the rope cocker still attached to the sting.
You should have seen and heard the song and dance after!

Thanks all for the kind words of encouragement and not beating me up, A top shelf class of people in this forum. 8)

Hank where did you locate a replacement handle for the cocker :?:

I just ebay’d a whole new rope cocker but I’d like to find a replacement handle for the one I have to fix up and keep as a spare for in my hunting daypack or vehicle.

I could easily see myself getting out there in the woods early one
morning and realizing I forgot the rope cocker. :(
Sure would be comforting to know I have a spare in either my daypack or close by in the Jeep. :D

Early on a handle slipped from my hand while decocking. Managed to hit my trigger hand fingers. OUCH!~ Glad you only suffered injury to your ego. Fortunately, that's how we learn. I'll never decock without utmost care again.

It's amazing how fast those handles get moving when they are still on the string! My handle smashed too, but on my thumb.. :D
Oh, and thanks for bringing that up Norm..

Glad you wasn't hurt, could have been bad. I am glad that you were brave enough to talk about your little accident openly, it may stop others from doing the same and becoming injured. Chalk it up to a valuable lesson learned and move on my friend, :) . Give yourself a big pat on the back from me friend.
Thank you,
Raymond

Sorry to hear your rope cocker and ego got damaged. Thankfully you and your bow are okay. :)
