The Great Escape

Post by MarkMarine »

There are so many variables in this uncertain world. It has been said of old, that death and taxes are the only certainties. Yet, between the here & now and the there & then, how we spend our time amidst the monotony of trying to etch out an existence is of the greatest importance. If we do not have some release - some temporary relief and reprieve - then we age all the faster whilst madly racing toward the grave.

Enter Excalibur...

There are too few pleasures in life which allow the mind and body a respite of escape quite like hunting with your crossbow (or even target practicing for that matter). When shooting the bow, the mind loses its hold on all the clutter and the ears deafen to the clatter...instead, the eyes are focused on the instrument in hand. A fine tuned Excal, sings a sweet song upon release. Accompanied by the whisper of the arrow's serenade downrange and the hills truly do come alive with the sound of music!

Couple the above with the chuckle of a bear during season or, perhaps, the distant gobble of a strutting Tom during the Spring. Maybe it is the late Fall grunting of a big buck as it wends its way toward your shooting lane trailing a scent only he could crave. Whatever, whenever, and wherever the game - an archer outfitted with the right broadhead/bolt combination locked & loaded upon the rail of an Excalibur is armed and ready for soul's vacation. The spirit of the hunt, the skill of the craft, combined with the aforementioned weaponry, is the ultimate destressor. I do not know about you, but I could sure use a break about right now.

And so, with a pipe between my teeth, bow in hand, I just think I will pull the old Block out this weekend and poke a few holes in all the right places.

I appreciate the welcomes. I look forward to catching up on all your posts that I have missed. So, I might be a little slow on the trigger to respond as I will dive in to the pool of thought here and try to sink or swim through the depths of all you've written.

I say this with 100% honesty - it is good to see you all! Nothing like being away lost in the dark and returning home to find the light on and the welcome mat out. Makes me feel all warm & fuzzy inside...of course, that could be the morning Metamucel working :P

Hey, welcome back friend. I hope you have a great time shooting this weekend.
