feeder

Post by papa bear1 »

Well i seen a new type feeder built by Bullzeye, and i had to try makeing one so here is my prototype,
Image
It's just a practice, one to see how it worked, and it worked pretty good.

Image
Notice it's not even camoe'd, but the deer don't mind,at all They used it the same day, :)
Image
But the coons can still get to it, :x
Image
But i don't think i can put it any higher , because i don't think the deer can reach it, ??? what do you think ???? Meantime i think will build 3 more bigger ones. :D
Image
Thanks Bullzeye for the idea. :D

They look good Pappa bear, how high is it off the ground ? I'd think you could raise it a bit by the looks of that doe eating from it.

to keep the coons out could you not put a shield over top with a good angle on it that way they wuold slide off if its a slick surface!

Well, when i hung it , it was about 24" but when i filled the bucket ,it sank probably about 4," so i think your right i could raise it 4", or so. I plan on building 3 more w/5Gal. buckets to hold more corn, I also plan to camo them.

They will travel the wire that's for sure or find some way reach an easy meal. A sheet metal disc to each side of the feeder should deter the coons.

Were there any pics showing how the bandit got to the feeder??

Thats what I was wondering, if the coon jumped up and pulled himself on or if he did a high wire act, he looks pretty small and agile so he could have done it either way. I think mine is 3ft off the ground, I will measure when I go back in a few weeks.
On mine I was thinking of finding some old barbed wire and wrapping it around my support wire.

I have a ton of raccoons unfortunately, someone told me to attach a 55gal drum to a tree and put nice smelly raccoon bait in it and they will jump in but cannot get out and are then easily dispatched. Anyone ever try that?

Agreed, best way to stop them is a hi-speed lead injection!
