Is the S5 system worth the $$$

Post by jeshoffstall »

Picked up a Vortex last year and absolutely love it. Was looking at the S5 system, but they are running between $40-$50.

For those of you that have it, is it worth it? Would you do it again?

Thanks,
Jack

I think the S5 is a must have. I just saw one new in box on AT crossbow classifieds site for $25.00 shipped.

When I put an Excalibur FFF string on the Vortex it made more noise and vibration. S5 reduced it to better than when factory dacron string was on.

guess ill be odd duck. wouldnt say its a must have. it lowers out sound and shock a little.for a hunting xbow i dont think its worth the added weight in the front but im picky and also us anti dry fire unit.the s-5 doesnt cost that much. your always gonna wanna know yourself so maybe buy and try.

I don't like to go against the grain either as the S5 does work well to stop noise and vibes. Like foofoo I use the ADF and a whiskers string combo and don't gain much by using the S5. It stuffed my day around at an archery comp once when it split, and the POI changed after removing them. I prefer to not use anything extra that can fail or alter POI on my target bow.

I made my own (which I will not picture out of respect for the site). The primary benefit of a string stopper is INSURANCE, not so much noise abatement - although is does change the sound somewhat. It doesn't prevent dryfires but protects the limbs from scattering if (when) one occurs.

I put them on mine, more for dry fire insurance than anything. they do seem to help some with noise but even shooting a bare bow is much quieter than my .270 so I don't pay to much attention to it.

If your poi changes when you take it off or split a rubber i think your string may be too close. You should be at least a credit card or string width from the stoppers.

Also keep in mind that with the s5 you are a bit more limited on brace height adjustment. It has never been an issue for me but it can be an problem for some folks.

When I first made one . . .the benefits of vibration was not the reason. It keeps the string from hitting the riser, gives a cleaner release of the arrow, and finally reduces noise and vibrations.

All these factors together certainly makes for a better shooting experience and helps your accuracy.

The bigger the bow, the more benefit you get. I do not have one on my Vixen . . .I'll never take it off my Max.

Ok, you talked me into it. Picked one up at Bass Pro. Easy to install, my string is about a string length away from the rubber. It does seem to quite the bow.

I did notice, however, that is dropped my POI about 1/2" at 20 yards (consistant over six shots at different dots). No worries, one click up and back in the x.

Will shoot at 30/40 tomorrow!

Thanks everyone!
