scope adjustment

Post by Gamikatsu »

ok, so shooting dead zero at 20, about 1" high at 30 and 2" high at 40... speed ring on my vari zone is at 350... if my logic is right...

1 click = 1/2 in at 20
1 click = 3/4 in at 30
1 click = 1 in at 40

yes?

should i adjust 1 click down... to shoot 1/2 in low at 20 just about dead on at 30 and 1" high at 40?

or am i flabbergasted...

Set target up at 20 and shoot at a spot towards the top of the target. Then move the target out to 40 yards and shoot the same spot as before still using the 20 yard crosshair, you will hit several inches low. Aim without an arrow again at the top spot and adjust the speed ring to where the 20 is on the top spot and the 2nd chevron (40 yds.) is on the last arrow shot.

Now try 20-30-40-50. :D

Just to clarify, your turrets are to get your crosshairs dialed in at 20 yards. Once you are on at twenty, replace the caps tight and leave them be. To drop your 30, 40 and 50 yard groups into POI you will need to turn the dial down on the speed ring. My vortex, with firebolts and 125 gr heads has the speed ring dot at the "3" on the 325 setting.

No way are you going to get 350 fps out of your setup safely.

Good luck, the hard part is done!

The speed ring is actually the power adjustment of a variable power scope. Upping the speed (power) decreases the spacing between aiming points. Decreasing the power increases the spacing the distance between them. Get your 20 yard zero using the reticule's crosshair and the up/over turrets. Once done, get your 30 yard point of impact by adjusting the spacing between the aiming points. (Leave the turrets alone), regardless if the speed ring setting corresponds. The 40 yard setting will likely be close at the same setting.
The speed ring setting is not exact, it depends on the weight of the arrow and the weight of the string being used.
