Newbie

Post by Deerstalker »

Hi all, I am brand new to cross bow hunting and just bought a Equinox from Cabelas. I am 73 and have not hunted much for the last 40 years and would appreciate any/all advice. Will I have problems using the rope cocking aid with that model as I don't have it yet as it will be here Monday? I also ordered some extra arrows & broad heads. I will be hunting from a deer stand on some private land and am really looking forward to the upcoming season. Thanks

Welcome, if you read through most of the thread here, you can learn alot. As for needing a crank vs. the rope cocker, that will be up to you and your physical shape. Some find that they need the crank, others, not. You may need to just get the bow, and try with the rope cocker, first.... good luck with your new bow.......RR

welcome to the forum

The enox can be a bit of a beast, if you shoot alot it can get a bit tireing
When you get it, try shortening the rope cocker string it helps alot

I am only a day over sixty and when I shoot mine alot I start to feel it. I never said that!!!

Welcome and great to see you hunting again :D Depending on how your joints feel the rope cocker is pretty easy. It gets tiring if you are doing it 20 times to practice but once for hunting is different

Welcome, tons and tons of info to read here, and lots of great people to answer your questions, I know because I have ask my good share of questions and have yet to receive anything negative only great people willing to help.

I have the crank due to neck/back injury and it works great, just shop around because some places sell them for $175  I believe I got mine for $125.

I have an Equinox. I can cock the bow with the rope cocker, but after 8 to 10 times, my 70 year old back will hurt for a day or two. I did elect to buy a crank for my bow and now my back does not hurt. I found one for $135.00.

I can cock my Axiom with the rope cocker with no problem.

You just have to try it yourself.

I'm 72, had an Equinox for a while, traded for Vortex, easier to cock with my cut shoulders (both). I like to shoot a lot. Found that if you shorten the cocker rope so you have to pull the bowstring up to the second hook about 4-5 inches makes cocking much easier. Don't invest in mech cocker until you try the rope. I'd did, it sits unused for now (perhaps when I'm 82 :D)

Welcome to the Forum.Plenty of good advise on this site. I shoot the Equinox and can only tell you this. It is an awesome piece of hardware. As for cocking, you will be the determining factor. It can wear on you for sure, especially if you shoot it a lot.Your age and health will be the deciding factors for sure.I would also encourage you to put lumenoks on your bolts. They really make a huge difference in visibility.Good luck and happy hunting. :D :D
