Cover Scents??

Post by Onetimeonly x--> »

If you had only one option in a cover a scent what would you use? I realize it's hard to beat a nose on a deer. Tried a lot of marketing "crap". My option would be Coon Urine, what would be yours?

I do not use cover scents at all.
I think you cannot fool the animals nose.
I do use some scents to get a deer to stop in my shooting lane or position it for a good vitals shot.
During the rut I don't use anything at all just try to be as clean as possible.

if someone eats pizza with garlic and tries to cover it with breath mints or gum you always still smell mint and also the garlic mixed. i figure a game animal having a nose 100 times more sensative is gonna smell human odor mixed with whatever cover scent. i will use a nuetralizer from time to time but a cover scent i think just appeases yourself. confidence is a good thing also. :mrgreen:

I have found that you are best to just make sure your body is clean and nothing better than ivory soap for getting that without an odor. I use a good scent away wash on my clothes and make sure to scuff my boots in the local dirt on my way into the stand, I do use scent away spray at my setup if I feel that I might have worked up a sweat before the stand. I only use a fresh pine limb if there are some close to my stand, a deer knows if you have a apple tree in the area then that smell is common but a persimmon smell where there aren't persimmon trees doesn't work. This is based on many trial and era cases that I or my friends have checked in different woods and field settings.

I keep cedar, maple and corn leaves in my clothing tubs and spray my boots with raccoon urine on my way into the stand.

Auto, how often do you use the smoker? Prior to each hunt? Weekly?

I use mostly coon or fox urine. The first year I used fox urine, I had a fox come across the trail that I walked to my stand. Must have smelled like the real stuff. He trailed me straight to the bottom rung of my ladder stand.

I have had the same thing happen using fox scent.
