Georgia opening day doe

Post by groundpounder »

I had a deer blowing at me in the dark just as I reached my ground blind. After it just got light enough to see, it appears over my left shoulder less than 10 yards away! Never saw me but eased on off while I'm assuming it was the deer from earlier slipping in out of curiosity. Then at 7:50 I saw movement out in front of me and a mature doe came walking into my shooting lane. Crossbow propped up on knee aimed and ready, guestimating range, deer at a slow crossing in front of me walk, I squeeze the trigger. A loud thwack is heard and I see the shot placement with blood already flowing as the doe is bolting away. High and back more than what I wanted. Should have done a quick whistle to stop her in her tracks but I didn't want to spook her before the shot. Still possibly in the lungs though. I wait half an hour and ease up to find my bolt from a good pass through. The blood trail was immediate with the 2 blade Rage. The trail was relatively easy to follow but the deer still made it a good 150 yards before piling up. Here is my opening day doe.

Awesome deer, its just hard to beat a good Rage even when the shot isn't where we want it to be. Congrats, she will be very tasty and maybe next week when our season starts I will success as good as yours.

With all the rain here in south ga. lately the skeeters were merciless this morning!!!
Started my season off by stepping in a hole submerged under a foot of water in the dark & taking a dive...me climber and the vixen, back is killing me now but the vixen is fine.
Will try it this afternoon if it's not storming.

Congrats on a nice opening day doe. I got set up in my ground blind before first light and never saw a deer. I did sweat off several pounds though.

Thanks everyone! Pulling the trigger is the last easy part about getting a deer. The work definitely begins right after that moment. It was a hot day today and dragging her out today was really taking it out of me. Quartering up is usually a pretty easy task for me and this one was no different. It's the spam time that always takes it out of me while processing. And as I'm typing this at the end of the day my back is definitely feeling it. It will not take long though before I forget about the work part about taking a deer and am out there trying to line another one up in the crosshairs!

Good luck everyone!!!
