First deer of 2012

Post by houser52 »

Took my first deer of the year this morning. It was also the first deer with my new Ibex that I got back in the spring.

A doe came out at 6:45 and walked around feeding for a little while. Before she got to my tracks where I had walked in I let the arrow go. She was about 12 steps from my tree. The XX75 2117 and 125 gain Slick Trick did their job with a complete pass through. She went less than 50 yards.

Congrats! Nice doe and I love the extra white meat you got with that one.
It's still too warm for my hunting preferences, I hung another stand and cleared a little bit of tree limbs that had me worried about possible shots.

Thanks a lot guys. It sure was a good morning. Our season came in last Saturday and I haven't seen a lot of deer but this one was close enough. I always like breaking the ice with the first one and then the pressure is off.

I don't like hot weather myself but Since last Saturday the weather has been really nice here, lows in the 50s and highs in the upper 70s. It's the kind of weather that makes you want to be outside.

Nice deer and nice shot placement.

Yep, looks like she's got a few spots on her. The front legs have some too.

Congrats on the deer! She should be some good eating. With piebalds being as rare as they are, you should probably take the hide and have it tanned.
