Summit Titan SD Climbing Tree Stand:

Post by Nighthunter »

Just ordered one of these last night so I'll have more options with my crossbow this season. Anybody use one of these? Was wondering if anyone has any pros or cons about them??? I haven't owned a tree climber in 15+ years and they've changed a lot!!!! Looks like it'll hold this old fat man... Will know for sure before too much longer.. Now I have a ladder stand, a fixed tree stand, a gound blind and this... Hoping between all of the above I can put some meat in the freezer.

I bought the Viper almost a year ago to the date.

It's nice. A whole lot lighter than the API that was stolen off the base of a tree, and it is quieter.

I don't care for the fact that in probably 20 climbs or less the plastic peeled off the cable and where the crimps are it has begun to rust.

Also not wild about the fact that the way the foot rest (on mine anyway) was mouted. Mine came from a Dick's in Jackson, MS and they have a Viper modelt hat includes the footrest, buit at that price ist's only through Dick's. They jhave some flimbsy ass bolts that go throught he holllow square pipe and once they back out (which happened to me while in the stand with two nervous does coming in checking 6) you need to find a screw driver and some lock nuts.

They just useds sheet metals scews through the two members of pipe.

They back out.

Light. Quiet. 8/10 on comfort.

Terrible footrest applicatoin, at least in the model I bogth from Dicks in Jackson, MS. THinking maybe they had folks bolting htem on out back and selling tyhem as an upgraded modle.,

I like my summit. But I felt alittle let down after all the hype. The API was almost as comfortable and cerainly better built.

Thanks for the replies... Still not sure how they will work on a Pine tree with that cable. My old one from back in the day when I could shoot my compound bow had a metal bar that bit into the bark pretty good. Will test it out when it comes in.

I have been using a Summit Viper SS for years to climb about every type tree in Georgia anmd never had a problem at all. I have had to replace the cable covering once. I also had rust on the cable but it was only light surface rust. I simply brushed it off and sprayed the cable black before putting the new shrink wrap on.

I think I could climb a metal pole with mine without slipping if I had to.

I went to a Summit Goliath this year and I love it. It is very comfortable. There are some modifications that I did to mine that have proved worthwhile to me in the short time I have had mine:

1. Take a file to the inside of the channels where the cables go. There are some sharp edges in there that are hard on the rubber coating on the cables.

2. Put some 1" non-skid tape on the platform rungs. They get slippery when wet.

3. The back pack straps that come with the stand are horrid. I outfitted mine with a set of Molle II straps and waist belt. What a difference in how it packs.

4. The "T" buckle strap that secures the top section will do the job but a set of stabilizer straps from third hand archery is far better. With the stabilizer straps the stand is incredibly stable. It really is rock solid. Watch the video.

5. I just got GamePlans Leech tree stand pack and I really like the way it mounts to the platform and it will hold what I need for a full day hunt. I am still working out where to put things in the pack.

Enjoy; being in a tree is a whole new world.

I have had a titan for the past 5 years or so when they came out. I love it . It is probably the most comfortable and the safest feeling stand I have ever been in. I have only found three drawbacks with it. 1. I am short and it is big, I can't comfortably sit on the rail and pull up when climbing. 2. I am short and it is big, walking it hits me in the calf, if I don't have the straps right when packing. 3. Cable covering is soft and does wear easily. No big deal. BTW thought of fourth drawback, depending on the tree it's hard to go down easy due to it wanting to grab. I don't have a problem with that. After hunting in a baker when young I get comfort knowing it wouldn't slide if I tried. Congrats on the stand and I hope you like it as much as I do mine.

Oh I hear that!!

Love my summit Viper however common sense is in play here...1 mistake I made was climbing 25' up a Poplar/Aspen tree in -20C weather.... I was warm.. I was dry and I was comfortable....just sitting up there enjoying the peace and tranquility... that is until my seat portion decided to drop 3/4".... I guess the teeth on the stand don't dig into a frozen Poplar well.... so I dropped 3/4"....which when you are totally relaxed and comfortable and up 25' feels like you dropped 15'..... now I'm sweating... my pants are full and I'm all tensed up.... time to go home

Moral?

make sure the tree you climb is soft enough for the teeth to dig into....I'm 215lbs and I thought I had set those teeth in well.... nope
