It's a nice feeling to make your own arrows, even better when you get to use them. Congrats.

Just a newbie question (so don't yell) but why not just buy a new box of bolts? For you experts what does making your own bolts with your own fletching etc. do for accuracy etc.? I used to be a big reloader for rifle and shotgun so I understand there are some advantgaes but it seems Excalibur has it down to a science already in a kit form?

He was re-fletching arrows he already had.............why throw them out???

Through experience I have found inconsistencies in production built arrows unless you spend a lot of money.
Personally I would rather invest the time and save the money and have all my arrows built to a higher tolerance than what I can buy off the shelf.

Most production arrows come with straight or slight offset vanes and they can be 4 or 5 inches in length.
When I fletched with 2 inch Blazer vanes in a helical pattern my arrow stability greatly improved.
I've done this going back to my vertical bow days.
I don't regret the time I have invested.

Ont_Excal sums it up nicely. :)

I look at arrow building the way others look at fly-tying, or reloading ammo... Not only is it an enjoyable hobby, but it adds another dimension to the sport.

That and there is no way in hell I would ever throw out perfectly good carbon, just because of some fletching damage.

Thanks gang! Ha ha I'm still pretty happy about it. Just a touch sad I'm done for the year, but I can't complain

Chuck, to buy 6 new bolts likely would have cost about what I paid for the fletching jig, a lot of wraps, and a lot of vanes.... so the way I see it is now any bolt I need to repair in the future will be free :D

The icing on the cake is those blazers do seem to group better then the excal standards (though they are good enough for sure).
