OT - soakin' the toe

Post by wabi »

I've spent a bit of time at home this week since I had my ingrown toenail (big toe) "cured". Called the podiatrist Monday and the only day this month our schedules matched for a visit was Tuesday. Since the toe was again getting very painful I "shuffled" my work schedule & went to the doctor. She had trimmed it a couple months ago and this time she took one look and said "We'll fix it for good this time."
Next thing I knew she was spraying it with ethyl chloride (cold spray) and sticking a needle in my toe to numb it!
She cut about 1/4 - 1/3 of the nail from the tip to the root and yanked it off my toe!

It feels much better, but it's just a wee bit tender and I have to keep it bandaged and protected for a week or so. Have to soak it twice a day & re-bandage, so this morning I'm also on the forum as I go through the procedure.

I've also re-scheduled a few jobs I felt might lead to a good possibility of "whacking" my toe. (eg. - replacing a water heater in a tight space)

I did spend some time at the wood lathe trying to learn the basics of turning some wooden boxes to pass the time. Not sure what they are good for, but the wife thought it was nice of me to be making something just for her and I let her believe that!

Well, don't push it. That big toe means business. Hope you can get out and hunt soon. As for me, I have to get rid of a cough. Darn it! :)

My daughter had that done 3 or 4 times
really painful but in the end it was worth it
to have the pain gone.

Makes me shiver just thinking about it

Ah, you don't need that thing. You should have had her just whack it off! Oh, wait, you meant the toe on your foot.

Better to have the toe job done. I know how those ingrown toenails can hurt, I had the same procedure done on both of my big toes. Now they are great. Relax and let them heal up good.

Yanking it off wasn't bad - it was numb by then. But that shot in the bottom of the toe to numb it might have been embarrassing if I'd had a full bladder!

I got off here, made my annual trip to the crawlspace to inspect the floor furnace (going to be cold tonight), and made another wood box on the lathe to kill time. The mailman brought me a pack of new 2" cut 100gr Swhackers, so I'm going shooting (to test them) and hopefully hunting this evening. If the toe gets to hurting I'll just use the landowner's tractor for transportation.

My youngest son which is 23 had this done about 5 years ago and it looked pretty painful to me. Take care of it so you can get back 100%.

As a kid I had a bad ingrown toenail. Was chasing my brother through the spam barefoot and I slipped and my big toe went under the
portable dishwasher and took the whole nail off. No
more ingrown nail! Heeled up perfect and never had an issue since!

Been there and done that. You learn after they do the first toe to have them do both sides of the toe at the same time that way you do not have to do it to the same toe a year or two later.

Kinda sounds like my brother. He had a big wart on the side of his index finger on his right hand. We were stripping tobacco one year and he hung that thing in a tobacco stalk on a down-stroke while pulling the leaves off. Jerked that wart out by the roots! No more wart though!
