the pheonix soared tonight

Post by xbowrook »

unfortunately my wife had to work this morning, but with these low winds and cool temps, i knew i had to get into the stand asap... so, once she got home at 2pm, i had the car already packed and ready to go and headed out to meet mom and dad at the deer bush.. got dressed and all ready to hunt by shortly after 3.. then nothing..lol. just a bunch of squirrels.. i did hear something like deer walking, but it was pretty thick behind me and all i saw were 3 "figures" running through the bush.. didn't see anything else until right near last light, as always.. looked to my right and saw a nice doe walking the trail.. lost sight of her so i figured i'd sit tight to see if she works her way to me.. just happened to look to my left and bam, there is this little 6 pt walking right to my deer cocaine set up and apples.. already had the crossbow in my hand, so i lifted up my excal pheonix and put the crosshairs on him and down he went.. dropped him right in his tracks.. spined him, hate those shots and didn't try to but i think i pulled up when i hit the trigger.. quickly re-loaded my xbow and put another bolt into him.. not huge, but it's meat for the freezer..

Congrats on the buck. I know when I am excited (shooting a deer) my arrow can go anywhere. In my last years I have been not as excited. :D
