My Exocet Crankaroo string broke while cocking.

Post by Masterhunter »

I've got an older Exocet 175, which I bought new and I do love it. Today I was shooting it after eating my lunch and it was doing great. I use the Crankaroo and as I almost completed the cranking the strings on the crankaroo broke and my crossbow dry fired. I could only find one of the two black plastic pieces of the crankaroo although I searched for over half an hour.

Let me tell you that when that happened it really frightened me. Crankaroo string had no signs of wear so I have no idea why it broke. Anyway it is the only cocker that I have, so no more hunting for me until I can get another or get this one fixed. Do you think Excalibur will replace it? What should I do?

It looks like my old Exocet is OK. Hope so anyway.

I believe the breaking strength is 600 lbs or more but I damaged mine as well as a couple of ropes for the regular cocker. How did I manage that? I put the rope behind the trigger unit! I didn't know what went wrong the first time or the second time but the second time I frayed the rope cocker I noticed it behind the trigger unit but the first time it didn't fray it just cut loose.

Thanks Boo. I don't know how I could be more truthful than just stating the facts. The cocker was screwed securely to the stock. I had been shooting without any problems numerous times today before the string broke. The string was on the crossbow correctly as well as the two hooks on the crossbow string.

I've used this cockeroo for several years without any problems at all. Before the string made it to the locking position is when it broke. These are the facts.

I'll call Danny and see what they can do for me and I appreciate the number.

I called and spoke to Danny today and he is sending me a new string with two hooks to replace mine. I asked him how difficult it was to replace the crankaroo string? He said if you can tie a knot, you can do it. He is sending it priority mail so I should get it by Saturday so I can be hunting again. YEA!!!

This is the kind of customer service that makes you proud of your choice in products. Great customer service is exceeding the customer's needs and Excalibur and Danny Miller have done so for me. Way to go guys and thanks!

Hi all.
ok I have had my matrix 380 not quite a month. My first crossbow ever and never shot one before.
ITS AWESOME!!!!!
MY issue. I have to use the crankaroo. the desige seems to be a after thought. [ ok not everyone needs one]
Anyway the string keeps breaking at the spindle holes [frays then breaks].
I tried string wax still broke. its too short to use now.

Just stuffed in paracord with the inner strings removed. [so it would go in the holes].
any ideas???
Is this underwanty??

HELP!

Hey don't feel alone we should start a crank break a string or line club. Mine happened to me twice do to burrs on the crank holes inside the wheels where string is threaded through. Deburred them and so far so good. Just keep an eye on the crank line or string as it will turn a from brown to white color and if it frays than move line and retighten knot away from weak spot or point in line or thread. All that tight tension on crank has a lot to do with line getting weakened. Just my 2 cents for what it is worth- :D

Boo you aren't talking about the groove in the stock that's behind the trigger or safety lever where your crank line stated to fray?

You may need to counter sink the holes all 4 of them. I spect it has sharp edges from bein drilled.

Steph, are you using a Crankaroo or a C2 crank ??? The Crankaroo is designed for older model bows .

There was a thread on this not to long ago and if I remember correctly a burr was the suspect. I had problems with my C2 fraying when I got mine and sent it back to Excal and I have not had a problem since, so I am guessing they deburred it. Someone also mentioned the newer cranks have a different string, mine is gold in color, not sure if that has anything to do with it though.

If you use a thicker rope you'll make it more difficult to wind. You end up putting more rope down on the drum effectively making the drum larger which will cause you to lose mechanical advantage.
The hole where the rope comes through on the inside of the spool has a rough edge which needs to be smoothened out.

Well, I am glad this thread was started because I just checked my string a sure enough right where the string comes out the hole looked pretty weak, so I cut off half inch of string and made a new knot, will try to find time this week to smooth out the hole.
