How Fast?

Post by bayman1975 »

Sighted in my Exocet with the new Shadow Zone scope this morning. It was almost dead on right out of the box at 20 yards. I've not had the opportunity to shoot any further. But, I have a question about speed. How fast should a 200# Exocet shoot a 420 gr. Firebolt? The Firebolt is right out of the box with vanes and 150 gr. fieldpoint. I've also got some 400 gr. aluminum 2114 Easton arrows with feathers tipped with 150 gr. fieldpoints. They shoot great, but consistantly shoot about 1 1/2" lower than the Firebolts. I figure they shoot lower due to the extra drag from the feathers, or helical. I didn't have time to shoot them thru the chonograph, but will on another day. I shot the Firebolts thru the chronograph with a 277 fps average. Is this about normal? I'm shooting the factory B-50 string with nothing on it. When sighting in at 50 yards, would you set the speed dial at 275 for starters?

:D i would think you 200 should be about 300 or more. they say the 175 axiom gets 280-285 with stock string, with my boo string, if think i should get around 305-310.

Sounds like I need to find another chronograph to shoot thru. I thought the bow was shooting faster than 277. It was getting there in a hurry.

If your weight is 420 with the head included, your bow will push that around 305 fps average. With stock string.

My 200 lb Vortex was shooting 300-301 fps with the stock string and a 415 gr. arrow when I first got it. I added the Flemish string and the speed went to 318- 319 fps. It is pretty amazing at changing strings how the speed changes.

300 to 305 fps, try a FFF..............Once it's broke in you shoot it at 40 yds and adj accordingly. New FFF's are a pain, lol.
