Spent the rest of the afternoon field dressing, quartering and hauling out. He's not the biggest bull I've ever seen but a pretty good size for our area (around 800 lb.). Dropped him with my Savage 99 in 300 SAV.
Congrats on your success. BUt you shot it too many times, ,....... what, you were scared of a little water

Actually I have been there and done that (water thing/moose) and you made a very good choice is stopping him before he got there.

Does this make up for your Van & Vix's crossbow thing

Again congrats.

Well the work is done!

Thanks to Ryan/DirtyGun for showing up with a 6-pack of Moosehead, his food sealer, butchering knife and sharpener. Also to my friend Mary-Lou who stuck it through right to the bitter end (we just finished!)

Ryan and I handled cutting the meat off the quarters, then Tim & Mary-Lou trimmed them and sorted them. Then we headed indoors for further trimming, cleaning, cutting, grinding and packing.

It was amazing how HUGE the muscle groups are on a moose! It's like a deer, but so much bigger. It was like butchering 2 or 3 deer. The novelty wore off after a few hours and I have to admit I'm glad it's done! :D

Check out that sirloin roast... It's HUGE!!! We made two very big roasts out of it. Also that backstrap Tim is working on... it isn't even all in the picture - it goes on forever!

It was a big job in terms of quantity. The muscle groups were the same as a deer, so, once I got myself familiarized, the cutting just came naturally.

Glad you and Tim got all that meat packaged up and put away.

And the couple moose steaks you insisted on sending home with me, even though I was more than happy to just lend a helping hand (WWJDWBK? "What would Jesus do with a butcher knife?" ) were very much enjoyed yesterday evening. Still couldn't convince Amy to to try a piece though...a little too rare for her.

Now your freezer's bulging...no room for deer. May as well send them my way.

Cheers.
