Dammit! I Was Warned!!
"These will spin true out beyond fifty yards" is exactly what Big John wrote to me as he was sending off the arrows I'd ordered...
Out early this afternoon to see what these Beauties would shoot like.
2.5" high at 20 yards. One adjustment. Bang On.
Move to 30 yards. Bang On.
Move to 40 yards. Bang On.
50 yards, 1/2 inch low. Quite Acceptable given the performance noted above. No adjustment, just a "mental note" for the 50 yard chevron.
All of these arrows were shot at differing bull-eyes up to 50 yards. I had heard and seen here just what can happen if you don't...
Move to sixty yards...
Here is the way my scope is currently set up:
So... figuring the arrow hit slightly low at 50, I thought it would likely drop just a tad more below the 60 yard chevron. Held just a little high. Good first shot, hit damn near exactly where I was aiming. Pulled the second shot just a tad right - recognized that when the arrow left the bow and before impact.REALLY Concentrated on the next, holding as near as I could to the first good shot. release and... WHACK! Huh? Whack??
Through the scope I recognized my mistake instantly... DAMMIT!
I'd only fired these two arrows but a couple of times... And... You guessed it:
OUCH!!!
Sincere Apologies Big John! I certainly did NOT intend to lose a couple of these works of art quite that quick, or in that fashion! And Dammit, you did warn me...
The rest of the practice run went smooth. Of course I went back to aiming at differing spots on the target, for fear of a repeat! And went on to spend a comfortable evening in the blind - gals and their kiddies for entertainment, none of the Big Boys tonight...
The only thing I can add at this point, is if anyone ever asks me how those Big John arrows fly, my answer will have to be... Well... they spin pretty damn true out beyond fifty yards...
Cheers,
Nog

Good shooting!
Also a good reminder not to shoot at the same spot... Too easy to wreck bolts with the Excaliburs!
Cheers

Re: Dammit! I Was Warned!!
Thanks for the fine comments on the shootin' Folks. All that practice is indeed paying off. And yes both John and Derf warned me... Double Dammit!
Let's see... 2 Blacktail tags, moose tag, muley doe tag, and possibly whitetail tags, methinks I might just get by this season with those that survived my foolishness. You can bet your bottom dollar though, once the season is over and John starts taking new orders again, I'll be DOUBLING the order to two dozen asap!!
And... Lesson learned! I will never again shoot two arrows at the same point ever again!
Cheers,
Nog
This wasn't quite they way I thought I would eventually lose one or two, but Damn Good Thing I ordered a Dozen!!bugs wrote:Guess you will have to buy more arrows

Re: Dammit! I Was Warned!!
One thing i noticed withthe flat nocks(and hole) is they are like magnets when another arrow is shot anywhere close..
i think thats the one drawback to the hole ..instead of a glance off it sucks the arrow tip in.....but thats a drawback we can live with.
just dont shoot the same place twice..
we have all learned that lesson the hard way..maybe its a scheme to make us buy more arrows. .
