Dear Bill
Though I have never met you I do have some feeling as to your character from the videos I have seen and the way you built your company and treat your customers and I want to say you are O.K. in my book I would hunt with you in a heart beat.
I feal you got caught in a situation that very well could of happened to any of us .
I have learned from your post to be careful of the regulations on hunts you are guided on do not rely on the guide to know them thank you.
I am sorry that you are paying more than you should for a mistake which this was not a planed violation on your part.
Chin up Bill
Best wishes

Nunavut did not bring the charges. They went along with this as long as they did not get their hands dirty. The plaintiffs faced a judge in Guelph and not in Nunavut.
Furthermore the actual hunt took place 7 years ago in 2005.

Funny how the only article I can find on this is in a paper in the north.
I cannot find a press release on this matter on the MNR website either.

"Following information provided to the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources, a search warrant was obtained and the raw video footage of these hunts was seized from a video production facility in Ontario."

That hunk of rock called Nunavut is just as guilty in my eyes.
Hunters should spend their money elsewhere.

Bill, your the same man I have talked to at many of shows and I had no idea of this. This is something that didnt need to be blown up. I know you and know that if you had you would have never been involved.

Sorry we're people and all make mistakes, I DON"T care who you are. Forget about it ! I believe this forum all feels the same because NO one brought it up and No One left here.

Bill your the same guy Bud !

Seven years to go though court. Makes me wonder if they investigated it years later from a rat or ongoing since 2005. Sorry to hear about it but it has no effect on my thinking of Bill T or the company. Will just help me be a little more careful of what I video with my Gopro. Keep your chin up and atleast now you can forget about it and move on in life.

Should have went to court in Cobourg and saved $2500.

I'm sorry to see you go through this, I think anyone who hunts can be guilty of breaking a law at some point or another. Whether they know it or not.

I'm sorry that you've had to bear the brunt of this lesson for all of us Bill. One thing I did want to clarify that hasn't been mentioned here. Is it correct that the "Inuit Guides" that initiated and facilitated these violations, were not charged because a "statute of limitations" gave them immunity from prosecution?

My, doesn't that suck!

Hmmmm.

Don't know specifics of case, but can't help but comment. Its a close issue as I guide a few turkey hunts and do a few fishing trips.

1. Seems that if the guide was instigating the illegal activity, that the guide would be responsible for the blame. This sounds like one of those horror stories where the client didn't know and still got a citation.

2. Flip coin. A boat captain is responsible and will get the violation if someone slipped a short fish in the box, or more than the limit, without the captains knowledge. I have checked and found rediculously short fish in the box that were illegal. I could have gotten a ticket or worse if I had not checked and the marine patrol would not have cared if I said I told them not to keep those short fish.

3. No disrespect or implications intended, but like it or not, legal limits are often tested in the coarse of attempting to provide a satisfactory hunting or fishing trip to paying customers. Guides only get so many bonus points for effort. Paying customers expect results, as would I.

4. Fish and wildlife enforcement agents may target the "easy catches." Easy Money?

One of the articles I read was this came to light because of another investigation . So Bill and the others may have been collateral damage for another on going case .
I have known Bill for 20 plus years and he would not do anything illegal knowingly .

Bill I just posted a story recently wrt your customer service whereby years ago I wrote to Excalibur and admitted that the problem I had with my bow was probably caused by a mistake I made although I wasn't sure. You answered that because of my honesty you would give me the benefit of the doubt...I have never questioned your integrity or that of your company since that day.

We all make mistakes. As a pilot, learning from others mistakes has kept me alive I believe. Your sharing of the story will no doubt help one of your customers not make the same mistake. i greatly appreciate your honesty.

Sounds like the "legal system" in Ontario is similar to the "legal system" in the US. Nothing to do with "justice", but all about making money!

From reading the article -
http://www.thealgomanews.ca/News/Nation ... .str?22099
it sounds like Bill was a victim of the legal system.

I've been waiting to hear your side for a while now. I honestly wasn't sure what to think of the situation it. I'm glad you let us hear what truely happened.

Life's road has many learning curves and this is just one of them. I truely hope people do learn from this and I hope it opens the eyes of other hunters looking to book hunts out of province.

This shows how easy it is to get caught up in a hunting violation if you dont take the time to read and understand the regulations.

Know the regulations don't depend on others to know them for you!

Sorry to hear hear you got tangled up in this mess Bill. I know we should all know the laws where we are hunting but I would have put my trust in my guides in this situation also. I hope this will all be behind you and forgotten soon. :(
