Hurricane Sandy

Post by snuffbox »

Nothing to do with hunting but my thoughts are with all of you in the way of that hurricane heading your way.
The way it looks from over here is not good.
Best of luck with it guys and gals and I wish you safe.

Thanks from Eastern MD. Well see how things go over the next couple of days.
I think we are expecting the brunt of the storm tomorrow night.

Think it's a Category 1 so it will be ruff but could be worse. Likely be a lot of down trees and busted out tops. Probably some power outages and that means no gas pumps or atms working.

Storm advise from a Florida boy:

1. have cash
2. have gas
3. have chain saw ready
4. have visquene to put on roof in case of tree damage
5. have plenty of ice and large coolers to put stuff in from frig and freezer unless you have a 5000 plus generator
6. have bottle waters and a drum or something full of water for stuff like flushing the crapper
7. plan a way of cooking while the power is out like gas grill or gas stove
8. move cars to open field away from falling trees or branches

Good luck neighbors

Generator is full of gas, fridges are full of food, chicken coop is anchored down..
Now, I am going to park my POS minivan under the biggest, oldest tree I can find. :D
Bring it on!

I don,t now how too get too prepared for something like this because we hardly ever get a storm like this one here.were going too be right in the middle of things here.we have some big pines in the yard and hope they don,t fall on anything! don,t need any big mess to clean up or house and garage too fix.worst is being in the house for a few days with the women,my mom, wife, daughter !!!!!!!

Might just be a Category 1, but it's the size of the thing and the prospect of it hanging up in one spot for a couple days that is most worrisome. If you're in an affected area and head out after this weather passes, be sure to check the stability of your stand before you settle in it. High winds can shift things around and make a tree you once thought to be stable be a candidate for falling over.

Removed all three ground blinds on Sunday. Took afternoon off to get ready for storm. Wife out shopping now. Cleaned out garage for her truck. Extra tie downs on our backyard portable garage. Tied to blocks incase the ground gets saturated with water and pulls out the six good screw in stakes. Lawn furniture put away, generator all gased up. Not much more I can do now. Rather be over ready than not ready at all. Oh ya most important, all stocked up with beer! LOL

were getting pounded right now with high winds and rain. can,t wait till it,s over.looking out the windows and the trees are just bent over bad and don,t know how much more they can take without coming down.good thing the winds coming out of the north and most of the trees should fall away from the house if they come down.I never seen wind blow so hard and for so long in my life! got the wife's yucon and my one boat in the garage but my big boats parked alongside the garage hooked too my jeep too keep it from blowing away I hope!!! I keep looking out the door too make sure it,s ok!!!!! can,t wait for it too slow down an go check my stands and do some hunting! can,t take being inside for too long with all these women!!!!!!!!

I hope all of you North of me can survive this monster storm. I'm on standby and ready to head into the office as soon as we get power outages. I had planned to hunt the next two days but SANDY has changed those ideas for now. EXCALIBUR friends take care and be safe. WE already a county just south of us that has 5 inches of snow now and the prediction that in the next hour we will start getting the heavy stuff.
