String Serving Tool

Post by leejacstu »

I shoot the equinox, and my local archery shop decided to charge more for re-serving my strings than it costs to buy a new one. Can anyone recommend a string serving tool, and what serving material to use for the strings on the equinox. I can make my own jig with no problem, unless they come cheap enough.

Go to my website for a really simple but strong serving jig.
The Outer Limits is my favorite, second is the Cavalier Pro and last is the Spigarelli.
You are probably best to go to 0.026" Angel Majesty for serving and next to that is Brownell's Crossbow Serving. Those two are the best lasting for the least amount of fussiness.

I would recommend Boo's site to anyone wanting to keep their x-bow in top notch shape . Wealth of knowledge on there.

The serving tool can be used manually as well.

Crossbow serving should be applied very very tightly to avoid separation. Been using Angel, in a Cavalier server and a string stretcher. I get the string so tight prior to serving that a 20 lb weight barely deflects it. I turn the tension screw way up, so much that I need leather gloves to protect my hands. Then apply the serving - on the string that has been unwound several turns - in the same direction as the bowstring is twisted to keep the serving from unwinding when the string is installed, twisted up. Serving separation is a thing of the past.

I have been usin leather gloves as the 2 new Cavalier Pro servers tubes bent 1st use on both. Broke BCY crossbow servin material broke A Majesty servin & broke the Halo! I pull the servin til it pulls string fer 1 1/2 to 2 unwraps then i serve a wrap & i do that til i get to me backservin. Thats cause i served my string wid Halo back about 2 weeks ago n it started slippin after about 30 shots. I hate it when i get 2/3's done & the servin breaks as i am pullin the snot out of it
