Distance Target Shooting

Post by Woodspike »

My cousin has his AR 15 (iron sights), I have my Excal. The distance, 100 yards. Giving myself a 5" POI handicap. Think a well tuned bolt and a bipod rest could get it done?

How about a paper plate at 100. On a calm day.
Gimme something I can work with! :)

For the record, he's shooting holes through quarters at 100 (with scope). I'd be happy just gettin on the paper.

i'm not sure about beating the AR, but you can definitely shoot some decent 100 yard groups as long as the wind isn't blowing.

many people don't realize that shooting an xbow at long range will make any inconsistencies much more evident than when shooting at normal ranges. i often practice shooting at 80-90 yards and it's definitely helped with accuracy at 40 yards. after making 80 yard shots the 40 yard shots at targets seem too easy.

let us know how you do.

yes, the plate will be a big enough target.

it's the elevation that you need to worry about as there is quite of bit of hold over required for the 100 yard shots. if you haven't attempted this before i suggest starting closer and working your way out.

Check on You Tube the video of the guy using an HHA Speed Optimizer. He shoots a 100 yard bullseye the size of a quarter on his second shot.It can be done.

My AR using peep sight will stay around an inch at 100 yds off bench ,, so I say he will smoke your XBOW especially if there is any wind ,, but I just added a scope to the
AR good to 300 yds now on coyote ! strings and sticks no match for gun powder and lead .....

Yeah, no way in hell would I try to match him shot for shot. I was more or less just curious if she could reach out there semi-accurately.

I have a hha on my vortex and on a good day with my best arrows and no wind it will shoot groups that make your eyes bug out! been hunting and not shooting much so took my vortex out in the wind for a few shots and the first three shots from a sitting position at 80yds went three inches for the group but a few inches to the right. on a calm day you better not shoot more than one arrow at the same bull or it will get expensive! these bows are very acurrate at long distance with the right arrows!

Sounds like a fun time. Give it a go. :)

i just realized you're the guy with the bow not grouping right. you're shooting 3" groups at 20 yards and you're already thinking of shooting at 100 yards?

Mid range trajectory is something like 20 feet.

Comes down to the right arrow combination , been doing 3 inch groups out of a 200 lb all summer at 100. The right scope is a must as well.
