friday night xbow buck

Post by LockDown »

The more i read my report, the more i realize it belongs on this board. Thanks to Oneshotscott for the taxidermy reccomendations

Here it is
-------------------------

the weather is finally perfect and im making the most of it. Made it out thursday night and saw 4 does and a mystery deer. tooooons of fresh sign around the one new stand we put up, including a good scrape on the ground not far from it, so i decided to hit the same stand friday night.

nothing happening at all tonight, then i hear a branch snap, then i see a doe pop out in front of me around 40 yards, shes through some trees and branches and then out pops her suiter. hes in hot pursuit and shes running. i saw a big rack really didnt pay any more attention to it after that. they curl off to my left and i fumble for my bleat to try and stop them. im shaking so hard i cant even make a clean call. she stops dead and he stops. the whole time im thinking theres no way im going to get a shot. he steps 5 yards out from behind a bush and hes looking for me, stomping his front leg. a few seconds go by and he looks away. hes thirty yards form the stand but through a heavy mix of branches, so i stand up and search for a shooting lane. I draw the bow and find an opening through the trees to his shoulder. i look and make sure i can see all the lines in the scope so the acr wouldnt bugger me and snap the shot off.

Thwack, solid hit and they peel off. my hunting partner messages me 2 minutes later, hes set up 200 yards east.

"see him"

"hit him" i reply

he thinks im asking a question and replies
"no, damn branches in the way"

"what? I HIT HIM"

i call him and tell him to wait a while before coming to my stand.

we head back over to the impact spot and find lots of blood. ok lets back out and get the flashlights. its now 620 and getting dark in a hurry. when we got back it was a faucet and we had no problem finding him 75 yards away.

30-35 yards
