2nd deer down with Exocet

Post by groundpounder »

My third hunting trip of the season and bringing home my second deer. Pretty good statistics. With fishing taking over alot more of my time my woods time has been more on the back burner. Still wanting to try and get three deer a season to supply our meat supply for the year I shot this smaller buck. So this is a "shooter buck" for me. My buddy and I have seen alot of different 4 pointers running around on the small tract of property we have been hunting. The rut is in full swing here and these 4 pointers have really been running the does. I let one a little larger walk yesterday but decided to take this one today. It came trotting in to me and right when I was about to whistle to stop it, it stopped on its own. Knowing this stop would be brief I let the bolt fly for a 15 yard deer angling toward me shot. I watched the deer run off on a stumbe and watched it stop and get shaky. Just when I thought it was going to drop it took off again. I waited my 30 minute wait and walked up to pick up my pass through bolt. Blood and hair on the bolt but no blood to be found anywhere on the ground. I did a zig zag search for blood while walking to the last place I saw the deer standing and still found none. I started up the hill in the direction the deer went and jumped it up about 15 yards up the hill. The deer only ran about 20 yards and I watched it lay back down. I backed on out and went back and got my buddy. After about an hour we came back in and both eased in on either side of the last place I saw him go down and there he was expired. My shot was a little farther back than planned but still did the job with a little patience. Deer only made a alf circle of maybe 100 yards from the shot with a 2 blade rage. Here is my 4 pointer.

Nice little buck there. Way to go. :)
