went out early, 45th opener for me.least excited i have been ever, after loss of majority of deer to EHD. Tried a new spot I set up closer to home for setting with my vortex after work in archery season. Saw a few in bow season, but always 50yd + , to far for bow. Took out H&R slug gun this morning, after 4 hr of bird and red squirrel entertainment ,heard a louder rustling behind me. Looked down as i raised my gun ........fox squrrill......then grunt! two nice does with a 9pt sniffing them 30 yds out. I actually thought this would be more fun with the vortex as I squeezed the shot off. I could see it was a good hit with the side turning red as it ran away. Twenty minutes later climbed down , three minutes walk down the blood trail lay the biggest buck I have harvested in all my hunting. Thinking I will be pretty selective on any future deer, as late bow season and remainder of firearm season gives me a month and a half more fun!
