New to Excalibur & Forums

Post by WesternMaHuntr »

Purchased my first Excal crossbow finally! Went with the Phoenix, with just the peep & single gr. fiber optic site for now! Using the Firebolts with 150gr tips. Added the S5 system so far. Been shooting pretty much 20yrds with the single pin,and I'm amazed with the accuracy.Wow! Bad news is,bow season here in Ma ends in 2 days on Sat.,but I'm enjoying just shooting it every day! Going out sat. ,who knows, maybe I'll get lucky on the last day.Been lots of interesting reads on this forum that have helped out getting started! Thanks to all !
Probably going to different sites at some pt. Heard about sites made by Bad River Outdoors, although pricey I like the set up with the 3 different fiber optics. After each shot,I can smell what I think is the wax I have worked in to the string serving,as the string slides along the rail.Does this sound normal ? Looking forward to this new sport and also this forum. Haven't bowhunted in about 10 yrs and 2 surgeries on left wrist prevents me from using a compound any more,so Excal it is ! Happy Turkey Day!

Welcome to the Forum and Congrats on the new Excal.Don't worry about the smell that is common when you shoot. The Phoenix is a nice xbow I've heard a lot of good things about them. If you decide to go with a scope at some point you will be even more amazed out great they shoot even out to 50 yards. Good Luck and have fun shooting and don't forget to load an arrow and keep the thumbs and fingers out of the way.

Hey Guys- thanks for your reply's.Few of 'em pretty funny  . Not sure if I'll go with a scope for next years Archery season.i did shoot with the single pin at 30 & 40 yrds and found it pretty easy to compensate for arrow drop.Any scope recommendations ? Stick with what Excalibur uses? Red Dot a possibility also!

Welcome to the forum! Check out the Vari-zone, a 2.5x by 4x. It adjusts the size of your field of view making it possible to sight in virtually any arrow between 250 and 350 fps at all ranges 10-50.

I know it sounds like a gimmick, lol, but it really works well.

Really been enjoying shooting this Proenix, but I've decided to go with a scope soon over the single fiber optic Any advice would be appreciated on scopes, and also wondering if anyone suggests removing string when not shooting.Haven't removed string as of yet,but I would remove dis. Pads first.
