Vortex speeds???

Post by sportsman70003 »

I just left a shop from shooting a Vortex and it seemed slow and i had my mind set on it... But with a Firebolt 422gr arrow it shot a 300fps and with a Parker gt2 arrow 401 gr shot 304fps..
Does that sound right for speeds???

It all depends on the chrony & the lighting. With the stock string & abit over 400 grs yup thats about right. If'en arrow was 350 gr & the FFF string on it reckon it would be above 320

You will get another 10 to 15 fps if you swap out the factory string for a flemish string.

As i said its not about speed but knowin yer crossbow, learn from it become one with it. I have several but my favorite killin Excal is me Vixen. Don't matter which limbs nor string she wears.

I also hunt with my vixen and have had a pass thru on every deer i,ve shot and it,s shorter an easier to handle and it,s a lot quieter and I don,t feel handicapped with it at the farthest I should shoot at a deer! so the vortex and equinox stay at home on the range.

I just recieved my Vortex. I have it tuned in and it's killin' 60yards with a consistent 3-4 inch group. Dangerous! I am shooting Fire Bolts (carbon arrows), 370-373 grains, with the factory string. It chronographs at 300fps. Not impressed or really happy about the speed.

I ascertained one factor to the speed is the brace height. The string is setting on the second mark from the riser. I was advised that the bow performs optimal the closer the string is to the first mark from the riser—meaning the bow should shoot faster the closer the string is to the first mark. Supposedly the power stroke is longer. If this is true, I will shortly see when the string breaks in and gets closer to the first mark from the riser.

However, the Vortex is crazy accurate. Other than the noise and slower than published speed, this xbow is awsome.

Watch your bheight very close if you choose this route. Personally, the diff is very minimal in fps.........

With a Boo string and a 358 gr. arrow I am getting 330-332 FPS. Bow is a Vortex.

I got 320 with Boo's Angel sting using a 400 gr arrow, and about the same (319) with my own Flemish.

Various fps is the norm. Were talkin factory string which is 8-12 fps slower than optional FFF string. Also chronys are all over the place on readings. All of the 300+ fps on these models are certainly faster than miss Vixen can shoot & she has never had any trouble killin tick toters out to 40 yds on any given day. Spect she would kill one at 50 yds but i don't have no shots that far here where i live. I have Mad Max with a Boo string on it & no doubt gets 350 fps. Guess which Excal i shoot huntin the most!

Don't get hung up on speed, 5-10 fps either way won't matter if you don't do your part. It's ACCURACY, not speed, that kills deer, every time.
