How to store pepperettes?

Post by ninepointer »

Part of my buck is now in the form of pepperettes, vacuum sealed. What's the best way to store them long-term?

I have put mine in the freezer for around a year with good results although they don't usually last that long before being eaten.

Keep a few in the fridge too...close to the beer of course. :)

The best way to store them long term is to store them at my house

If I leave them in the fridge they get all eaten up to quick, so usually put only one or two packs in the fridge and the rest goes in the deep freeze.

I keep mine in the freezer . I then wrap an individual pepperet in a paper towel . Put in the the microwave for 20 sec . or less . Depends on the power of the microwave. You can hear it burst . Don't over cook . Now it's beer and pepperettes time ! Ray

Just finished grinding 6 lbs to make hot stix for the neighbor. Partial payment for watching the place while I'm south. I usually vacuum pack mine, six stix to a bag and freeze.

we usually freeze in 1lb vacuum sealed packs. i couldn't tell you how long they last in the fridge before spoiling because a bag usually only lasts a few days. :D

mr meat, i find that condensation sometimes builds up in the bag if thawing on the counter instead of in the fridge. i'm not a fan of "wet" meat sticks so i always thaw in the fridge now.

roast the meat sticks over a fire like a hotdog or toss em on the bbq for a few minutes to get the juices flowing to enhance the flavor.
