Before and After

Post by Close Up »

Nothing like leaving it almost to the wire.
Been a tough year. Went through the shot gun hunt, seen 7, had only 1 shot and had a clean miss. Not even a tree to blame.
Trail Cam showed lots more signs of activity including this shot of 2 does and a buck.

Switched to bow season and struggled with hunting in the morning and checking the Trail Cam for yesterdays activities and seeing them always show up after I'm gone.
I believe this young buck showed up on more then one occasion.
Stuck out a longer day and saw nothing. but the next morning I finally had some company while I was there.
Heard the noise and watched a short nosed doe walking in. Heard noise in behind her and another one was coming. A young fawn and 2 more does were behind her. Then I spotted the horns as the young buck came in hot on the trail of the does. After that the does lost my attention as I focused on the buck.
He presented himself in my shooting lane and I accepted his offer using one of the arrows made up by Doemaster as he tried to change my luck for the season.

This is when the work started for Old Buck, Doemaster and myself. Notice the similarities of the buck in the 2 photos. I think it's the same one. Of course I haven't been back to check the Trail Cam yet to see if he's still there laughing at me. Not a real big one but he is real tasty.

This is what's wrong with deer hunting today; the first question is always "what did he score?" these kind of hunts like yours is what deer hunting should be all about; I would rather read a story like this than watch a 100 episodes of the "hollywood actors" on the outdoor channel;
Congrats on a great buck and thanks for sharing with us; enjoy the table fare.
