Results of Matrix 355 Tests Today

Post by Big John »

Well it was a fun day to say the least. :)
Put the Bow through a few different tests. Two different strings, three different arrows. All through Chronograph. Noticed a couple things again today.
First is that the bow shoulders and shoots very well. This because of the shorter, lighter, better balance of the New Matrix line. You can hold on shoulder and bullseye much easier and longer since the weight is closer to you, and not so far out to the end of your reach like previous models. The noise again sounds like a very fast dry fire almost. It's a abrupt noise with less vibration. It is quiter with heavier arrows.
Since all shots went through Chronograph and all arrows and strings tried, you could really pick out differences. Here are some pics and numbers from today.

Here are some numbers to match:

First is the Excel String the comes with the Bow:

Diablo arrows - 18" - 352 gr. with 100 gr. heads= 366 fps average.
BEA Executioner .001- 18" 416 gr. with 100 gr.= 346 fps average
GT 11 arrows- 18"- 390 gr. with 100 gr. heads= 354 fps average.

Second with the Flemish String and Angel Majesty:

Diablo Arrow- 18" - 352 gr. with 100 gr.= 361 fps average
BEA Executioner-18"-416 gr. with 100 gr = 343 fps average
GT 11 arrows- 18"-390 gr. with 100 gr.= 346 fps average.

The 355 Matrix interestingly performs better than the Excaliburs advertised speed of 355 ft/sec using a 350 gr arrow with both strings.
Nice!!
You changed the scope too from the Tact Zone supplied with the bow???

Not fair Boo!! All bows look small on me.
I think she fits Beautiful!!! And I think she loves me back equally! :)

Swamp donkey: I notice only a small amount of creep before she bursts out of the gate!!! Maybe an 1/8" only.

Norm: I have unfortunately realized what the scope does and doesn't do for me. First the Tact Zone is very clear and excellently designed interior. But, it does seem to have the problem of lense blur when only slightly off dead center. Just bothered me enough to swap out to a New Varizone. Which I may swap out to a Shadowzone.
But it will require higher rings as well. If not it will get a Leopold same os the others. Others say they cant believe the clarity and LOVE the Tactzone.

Because of the short stroke the new bows will be much better with lighter arras.

I may send my Leupold 2x7 to the Leupold Custom shop for a custom drop reticle. Will see after I purchase my M380...might not need a custom reticle at 380+ fps.

Lets do the math Diablo
366x366=133,956x352gr=47,152,512 divided by gravity constant 450,240=104.72 KE

Gt
354x354=125,316x390gr=48,873,240 divided by gravity constant
450,240= 108.54KE

Although the arrow travels faster because its lighter less Kenetic Enegry

A slower Heavier Arrow delievers more Kenetic Enegry

Thanks for the review. How was the accuracy of the different arrow combinations?

Yes I was using a couple strings today. one was Flemish. Cant be bought yet. But we knew it would be slower a little, and it was. Was a trial only. And to that, the difference of 50 gr. in arrow weight made a lot of difference in sound and feel. Quieter! And they do produce more KE and deeper impact in targets. I am going out with the same strings and arrows to fifty yds next to see how it goes. Then I will report for the final time. I am hoping the 50 gr. heavier arrows perform well to fifty since those are the ones I want to use. If not, I have no problem using Diablo's. I am a fan of Leopold scopes and would probably end up with it on my Matrix. The Tactzone's are very sweet scopes and very clear when looking right on target. I think that for me if I cant get right on fast enough, you may lose a shot. For others no. It's a preference thing. Thats all.

We have to remember that everyones eyes are different and focus differently for each of us. The Tact zone may be perfect for one shooter but focus entirely differently for another. As we age this changes altogether. It might be best to try the Tact Zone first at your local dealer first and taking ones time to evaluate your eyes to the scope.

Great reviews with different arrow weights! I shoot 433gr. out of my 175#. It will be interesting to see the 355 bow out to 50 yards.
