Matrix - Stringing & Unstringing

Post by ComfyBear »

Just wondering:

With the increased draw weight and therefore the preloaded added stress placed on the limbs, should one unstring when not shooting it?

Has anyone tried to string or unstring their Matrix without using a stringing-aid? Is it possible?

I would think leaving it strung would be the same as any other Excal . I think Unstringing it would be a ( un-comfy ) Bear ! :D

I don't know about that Farmer. I know that a lot of folks leave their Excalibur strung all the time. However, I remember Bill T. telling me years ago, that even though one could leave an Excalibur strung all year round, it was best if it was unstrung when not in use. Kind of like shutting off the engine of a car, instead of letting it idle in park. That was when the most powerful Excalibur was only 200lbs.

Now with the addition of 60 lbs, the new Excalibur Matrix 380 Xtra crossbow, with Compact Recurve Technology, changes everything!. Personally, I think unstringing it when not in use would be wise.

Don, at 5'6", and only 160lbs, it's more stubborness, than being a manly man.

All kidding aside, I do it because it's a lot faster, and actually, believe it or not, EASIER for me.

Even though I've owned several Excaliburs since the 80's, I didn't own a stringing-aid until I bought my Phoenix in 2005, and initially had a bit of a problem with the factory string.
After using it a couples of times, and finding it a pain, I never used it again, and finally sold it.

It's not about strength, but rather technique. However, with a Matrix, I doubt even with my technique that I'd succeed.

Is the stringing aid being confused with a cocking rope?

Hey Lou
Just received a test string from Don. First time taking the factory string off the Matrix 380. Never owned a stringing aid in 20 years of owning excals. I'll tell ya, It was a brute but doable. Just make sure if you are putting a flemish string on you twist it enough so you get it close the first time you put it on. Rather than taking it off putting it on numerous times. That is tiring. If you have the right technique it shouldn't be a problem. Good luck :D

No I mean stringing it, because as far as cocking it, at my height, even with a cocking-aid, unless I shorten it, I would have a tough time to cock my Exomag, and with my Max it would be impossible.

Perhaps, I suppose it depends on the amount of weight placed on the limbs and how far they have to be bend in order to string them.

I have no problems stringing my Exocet or Exomag (both straight risers) however any Excalibur with a forward riser, I find doable, but alot more effort is needed.

at least there are no disipator pads to remove with the matrix when unstringing it.
