Stripped Riser Bar Bolt Help?

Post by jrafert »

Hi there,

I purchased my Exocet 200 from an individual around thanksgiving. I was watching the Excalibur videos and saw the one where he (Bill) had removed the 2 bolts holding the limb on. Well I thought this was great way to travel with the crossbow and made the footprint much smaller.

Here is the problem, I noticed the bolt was stripped, and then I tried to use an extractor, but not finding any luck with it. Is there something I can do? Dealer to send it to or something, would love to be able to remove the bolt.

Any help or suggestions is greatly welcomed. I love shooting this crossbow and got the pretty stand for my office, but when traveling would love to break it down smaller.

if im reading you right your are speaking of the one holding the riser on and takes a 3/16" allen..and the hole is toast..
at this point if the other one will come out i think i would drill it starting with a small bit and then work my way up untill the tapered shoulder falls off..dont drill to deep ..the goal is to make that shoulder come off so that when it does the riser will be free from the rail and you can get some vice grips on the stub sticking out ..heat will help..then youll need a new bolt..
the best option would be to send it to Dan Miller in the states or Excal if your in Canada.. hope this helps..

Where are you located? If its one if the screws that him the riser to the rail, I would use a center punch to turn the screw out. Hit it straight on to make a nice indent in the head of the screw then slightly angle the punch to allow the screw to turn ccw when hitting it(the punch)

Yup, start there. If you are near me I can get it out for you. Fill in your location in your profile. It will help us help you. Don't forget you'll need a bolt once this one is out.

Danny is in Sardis Ohio, 740 483 2312. Get a bolt or two and try to get an automotive shop that has a spiral extractor with a hex on one end to hammer it in and wind it out.
That will save you shipping if it works.

You may want to ask the previous owner if you can if they used loctite

could also
Use penetrating oil first on the thread

Cut a slot in the head.
Then try a screw driver.

or try this product if you can find it

Went to BassPro Shop in Orlando last week and talked to the guy, he didn't have anything to help, but he did give me a bolt once I was able to get the bad one out. Which was very nice.

Check the bolt thread that you did remove and see if there was any adhesive used

ALSO you could try asking a GunSmith
