I bought a used Excal pheonix 2 weeks ago.I got some new arrows, and put a excal vari zone scope on it.The bow is advertised to shoot 305fps with a 350gr arrow..Im shooting the Gold tip laser III's,and with a 100gr tip,it puts the arrow at 430grs.
So I was trying to sight the vari zone in just a little while ago.I have had to adjust the FPS dial, all the way down to 260-270fps,which i assume thats the result of the heavy arrow.Anyway,I have it hitting good at 20yds and 30 yds,but when I back off to 40 yds,the arrows hit about 3-4 inches high...It groups them good, this bow is defiantly gonna shoot better than I can shoot. It put both arrows within 2 inchs of each other at 40yds.What do I do to get the 40yd crosshair to match the 20 and 30 yd marks? Do I adjust the FPS dial up?
My hands got a little cold so I quit and came inside, and I couldn't find my bow string wax,and the string is in need of some wax, thats for sure.

I'd sight it dead nuts at 20 and 40, then live w/ 30 or tweak it a bit more.......You know, high on one bull low on another???????

Set up at 20 yards and adjust till hitting dead on.
Now move your target to 40 yards and shoot at a aiming point towards the top of the target using the 20 yard crosshairs. You will hit low, thus the reason to pick a spot towards the top of the target.
Now without an arrow loaded sight in again at the top spot with your 20 yard crosshair. Adjust your dial till the 40 yard chevron (second down) is even with the arrow you shot.
You should now be sighted in.

Went back out and I couldn't wait till tomorrow.I now have the FPS dial set right under 300..This is what it gives me,what am I doing wrong? The 30yds picture is actually upside down, those arrows hit at the top of that dot rather than low..

Are your target ranges labled correctly? It looks like your are shooting a lot better at 40 yards than 20......

I would say you need to focus on your 20 yard adjustment first and only.
Leave speed adjustment where it is then I would say adjust down 1 click and left one click to start .
Then skip the 30 yards and focus on the 40 yd by adjusting only the speed dial. I would expect you will need very little adjustment to the speed setting. Once you are hitting well at 40 yd by the speed dial adjustment then only check and confirm your 20 yard.
Plus use the same point on the target for all shots. Shoot one shot at a time and all shots with the same arrow. To many variables some times causes you to chase your tail and over think it. ( different points on the target, different arrows and different targets)
I suspect once you start to shoot for group rather than POI the arrows will group well together.
