Not pretty, that is for sure.
But it is certainly not a safety issue as many are trying to say. If it were mine, I would shoot the heck out of it until I got replacements.

I found it interesting the color of the riser was a light shade of tan/brown. Not what I expected from the picture when I clicked on the Matrix 380 Blackout link (at the top left of this page). I thought it looked more gray in the picture on the link.
Believe I like the camo better now.

Guess we need someone who owns a Blackout version to clear it up.

The color in the AT pic looks tan to me.

But the pic in the CBN pic looks gray?

Wabi, lighting plays a big role when taking a photo... I would be willing to bet that the CBN photo is a more accurate representation of its true color.

The picture on the Crossbow Magazine forum was mine and that pic is a true representation of the color. To me it is a fine looking bow. :D

I posted on the AT thread, much ado about very little. I was warned prior to purchasing a black xbow that every ding either from the factory or myself would show.

This isn't meant to disrespect the OP there, some guys treat them like jewelry, other guys like jeeps.

I'm a jeep type, lol.

I have two sets of Eclipse limbs and which have the same finish as the M380 Blackout. Imperfections do show more with this type of black finish compared to the camo finish. No biggy for me.

With 250,000 separate fiberglass strands going into a Excalibur limb ( more in a Matrix limb the way I see it) I don't see a small blem like the one shown above compromising performance in any way. Just shoot it!!!

Appears to me that demand intruded upon quality control
'Bet they would replace the riser and stirrup with black ones (like in the picture) if it was in fact a 380 Blackout model from the factory. What is a little inconvenience if Excalibur happily makes it good :?:

Its not just the black ones. My camo 380 has a much deeper one than that. If I could figure out how to post a picture I would post it. I figure I will shooot it a while and give Excalibur a call. I do not see it as a big issue.
I looked at my Vixen and Ibex and they both have them as well, but not as big or deep. The Ibex has well over 2000 shots on it.
If somebody who knows how to post pics will Pm me I can email you pics of the 380 to post here.

Just took a good look at my 2007 Phoenix and it has similar grooves.
I think it is only being noticed now due to the carbon finish which is going to show any blemish. It is a pattern of 90 degree angles and will show any deveation like a sore thumb.

I wouldn't worry about it.

The riser and stirrup are greyish in that photo, a greyish that matches the mainframe , not black as mentioned. You may need glasses.
