Not crossbow hunting but its hunting !

Post by Adrian J Hare »

Got up at first light and head to a place close by and sneek in and setup the fury and Mojo and settle back about 40 yards from the caller.

I turn on the cottontail Distress 035 for 1 minute at vol 24 then I raise the volume to 28 for 32 seconds and then back down to 24 for another minute. I mute the caller and as I watch the woods edge I catch a gret yote trotting straight out towards the caller. I allow him to come and get ready at about 50 yards when I see movement back at the woods and out pops a Black. She stands at the woods edge and watches the grey confront the caller. I swing and set the crosshairs on the black and down she goes. The other hauls a$$ and I turn on the Kihi and at around 200 yds he stops and broadside I shoot and miss  I was right on him and have to wonder if I shot over it

anyway this is this is the second black yote I have taken in 2 years...

What brand of caller are you using? I am currently researching them and want a reliable one that has good battery life and will work at least 100 yds away from my stand.

I use the FoxPro Fury and hand calls. Always have hand calls with you and ready as at times you dont have time to get the fox pro out. I never place the caller any farther then 40-45 yards max so i'm not sure how far out it goes...

That's very cool Adrian. I have never seen a dark coyote like that one. Way to go. :)

I just purchased a FoxPro Scorpion X1B. I had it out on the weekend for a test run just to try it out and get used to the remote buttons. I had it set up 80 yards from me and it worked flawlessly. I was sitting on the ground and the caller was propped up in a small scrubby bush about 2 feet off the ground.

What a beauty. How much did that coyote weigh? I've seen one like that around my place, real dark.

Congrats on the yote that is a very big one compared to ones I've shot. Thats pretty awesome also getting a black one. You probably educated the other one you missed but maybe it will come back soon for you. Good Luck

We have lots of hybred Coyotes here in Ontario. Back in my forestry days of 1977 we talked about that issue in class.
