Matrix, AeroVane 3 & D Nock
After having the string jump a Firenock flat nock, I switched to the D nock and it works great. It will also fit inside the Lazer 3 and some other shafts. Just make sure cock vane is aligned with nock and it snaps into place. The aerovane 3 is impressive...I shot 490 grain arrow at 30 yards and also a 437 grain arrow at 30 yards in a 25-30 mph crosswind. Arrows were dead center. The 490 arrow was only 1.5 inches lower than the 437 grain! Normally it would be 4-5 inches lower with areo-vane 2 or blazers. If you have any questions about them you can contact Dorge of Firenock at 815-780-1695. Since my state, Indiana, opened up Archery to crossbow for all of the season, I have went strictly crossbow for deer hunting and am having fun tinkering to find the setup that works best for ME.

Do you think that the lip on the vane caused the arrow to ride up in the groove to cause the partial dryfire?

I,m glad there doing great for you! I now always check any arrow I shoot an do whatever it takes to make the string hit dead center of the nock . thanks for the imfo!

What would be far more interesting would be to shoot 50 yards and further. That is where you see issues with arrows set ups. I'm betting if you do you see even more differences on POI and wind drift.

Agree with what Boo said...
Also be right interested in knowing if you have found a broadhead that flies true at distance (40+ yards) with this set-up?
Wondering...

I never had a flat nock that was a plastic flat firenok jump string until I tried the new vanes...that probably made it jump although I had 4 shots in before it did. I will test my set up with broadheads tomorrow at 40 and 60 yards to see what happens and post results.

I shot at 50 yards today and could not get the following broadheads to come close to impacting close to where field point did...150 boltcutter, 100 grain slick trick, 150 grain slick trick, swacker, TNT. I found out that there may only be one broadhead that will fly with that set up...I have some ordered and should know by early next week...it is called a Hartcraft Trophy 1

Do you plan on trying any mechanicals John?

I tried mechanicals and they shot much worse than the fixed points. Dorge says this is an extreme vane that does not perform like any other....it is spinning so fast it gives mechanicals a fit. If the Hartcrafts fly like he said they would this would be a very flat shooting set up and be very good in a strong crosswind. I thought the mechanicals would do ok but they do worse than a fixed blade broadhead.
Re: Matrix, AeroVane 3 & D Nock
So does the fixed blade broadhead act like a canard and steer the arrow?Or does centrifacal force keep the fixed blade on target? In your test do you think that the high winds spun the arrow faster?

I was speaking to Jerry at South Shore Archery Supply (813-545-0754) today and he was addressing what you are learning, and of the AV-3's with broadheads. You may want to give him a jinglejohn316mole wrote:I tried mechanicals and they shot much worse than the fixed points.
