prayers needed

Post by xbowrook »

well, it has been a roller coaster year thus far.. my father in law, good man, was having a tough time breathing.. was feeling really weak and short of breath all the time.. he's worked on cars and welded, smoked and performed ( a pretty popular local country band ) for many many years.. doctors diagnosed him with COPD.. few days later, got worse and was getting pretty uncomfortable.. took him back in and did some tests.. heart beat was going all over the place.. did more tests, found out he just had a heart attack.. more tests and more tests revealed he had congestive heart failure.. wasn't sure of what to do, put in a stint, bypass surgery, etc...got back from london today and his test results came back and showed he is in stage 4 congestive heart failure.. said there is nothing they can do for him? don't you find that weird?? anyways, he's still in the hospital and they are sending him home tomorrow.. wife and family are taking it pretty hard, understandably.. this is their dad, a hard working loyal man who's done nothing but be there for his kids.. will keep you all posted on his progress..

Thoughts and prayers from us here.

I don't mean to be cruel or harsh, but maybe the docs know more then they're telling you, he may be too far for any known corrective surgery. :(

Very sorry to hear this bad news. Hoping for the best for you all.

Nothing strange there at all.
COPD..........Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease............also known as Emphysema and Chronic Bronchitis.
At his stage I suspect he would not survive the surgery.

He sounds a lot like my dad, who waited too long to see a doctor and all we could do is keep him comfortable as best we could.

Your wife will need you now to lean on.
I'll keep her and her family in my thoughts and prayers.

i agree Ont_excal and taz.. talking to my wife about it tonight in more depth ( it's hard to do with the kids all around and her mother who is a nervous wreck right now).. they didn't even tell us it was stage 4 until my wife asked.. they haven't given ANY information about it.. until my wife researched it and found out how serious it actually is and started to ask questions.. it is irreversible and there is nothing they can do but make him comfortable.. this is the final stage of heart failure so it's only a matter of time, which is the hardest part sometimes.. a stint won't help, a pace maker won't help, neither will a bypass.. at this point, there is literally nothing they can do to "fix" him... it sucks, you know everyone at some point will reach a time in their life where "the end" is near... but to be this age , 58, it's way too young.. will keep you all posted.. thanks for the prayers and wishes..

its a shame that its so hard to get information from the hospital staff regarding treatments or the lack thereof. It shouldnt be this way.
