First Hog...Ever

Post by nchunterkw »

Well, I finally got a chance to go on a hog hunt with several family members here in NC. We all had a great time and shot 2 hogs.

I was setup in a ground blind 20 yards from a feeder with a green LED "Kill Light" and went in at about 3:45PM. The hogs had been coming in around 6:00PM-ish but not on this night. Nothing came in untl about 9:00PM when I saw a HUGE opossum come into the corn. He left and then about an hour later 4 hogs came in. It took about 15 minutes for them to mill around enough for me to get a broadside shot at this one when another one was not behind it. Once that happened, I loosed my 575gr Easton FMJ tipped with a 2 blade Magnus stinger. At the shot they scattered into some really nasty thick new pine growth. Needless to say both me and the guide did the track job with pistols in hand, but it didn't matter. She went 20yards as I took out both lungs and hit the top of the heart. Not a huge one, but my first one, and I'm hoping it will be mightly tasty. Picking it up from the processor tonight.
