Changing power on scope???

Post by sportsman70003 »

Hey everyone i have a 3-9x40 scope on a HHA optimizer on my Matrix 380, today i shot at 60 yrds and found that to shoot at that yardage i have to put my scope on 9 power to shoot dead on, i tried it on 5 or 6 power first and shot 2-3 inches lower put it on 9 power like i did the first time and put 3 in a golf ball does anyone have anything on is that the way it works????

So, if I understand this correctly changing the zoom on the scope without adjusting the Optimizer changes your point of impact?

Could be a parallax issue.

That might be acting the same way an Excalibur scope does. When you move the speed ring on an Excalibur scope you are changing the magnification. If you set your scope to lowest power and start with the optimizer, then adjust scope power you may have found a way to "program" different groups of range settings at different magnifications. Take your trusted arrows and a note pad and write settings for both and range. After a lot of shooting you should have a set of tables. I do not know how good the repeatability of the optimizer is as I have not used one.

Or, it may be that you aim just a bit more precisely at 9X than 6, just sayin'

The POI will change every time you adjust the magnification on your scope. Like was stated in previous post, find a magnification you like for all yardages and the use the HHA to adjust the POI of you arrow. That's what it is for.

'cept for the crosshairs, shouldn't be any change there, they are centered in the field of view........

Try benching it - play with your zoom while looking at it and see if the crosshairs move. They shouldn't. Make sure you're not changing your head position/rest/angle.

Is it a single crosshair reticle or a window pane?

Keep us posted on how this goes!

If you're just using center crosshairs the point of impact should not change with the zoom. The center is always center no matter what your power setting. I still say parallax. Parallax can intensify on higher power settings.

Well everyone i spend alot of time shooting Friday evening and Saturday, what i came up with is i wasn't putting my chin in the same spot on the stock when changing power because eyes :D :D wasn't high enough at higher power to get centered in scope so i cut a piece of black pipe insulation and installed on stock with mole skin to hold it in place and now from 25 yds. out to 60 yds. putting them back into a golf ball size group while only using 4 power...
