Big Jake

Post by MADMAX2 »

Decided to get up at 3:30am to try a new public bush for me,when I got there seen no other vehicles so in I go.

While walking I stop every 50yds and stop and do an owl hoot never did get a shock gobble,as daylight aproaches I hear a distant gobble it is pretty windy.

I decide to stop and set up if I can hear him he can hear me,so I let out some yelps and clucks and he responds it's 5:45am, I do some soft purrs and a hen fires up and flys into my setup and works her way to the gobbler.

I decide to let out some loud aggresive calls and hear him getting closer then the hen fires up and I tell they have met up!

I decide to stay awile and plan my next move when to my left I hear something walking beside me, out of the corner of my eye I see a bearded bird walks ten feet from me then another and another and another four set of eyes on me I don't even blink.

They make their way to my decoy and I slowly raise the 870 and wait for a clean shot at just one(took forever)finally one breaks away and I let a 3"HV #6 fly.

Bird down it's 6:30am

Congrats on your turkey. Sounds like a very exciting close encounter. :)
