Vixen FPS Carved Tip Limbs

Post by vixenmaster »

Well this is the 1st segment of some shootin sessions i am doin. I have a Chrony-Pro Pal that was lent to me by a nice Forum Member. Mainframe rail is 17 3/8" total length & i have on the front a Forward Riser wid a set of Blk carved tip Limbs that Blackjack sent to me, many Thx to Frank fer them. Arrow used is a GTII 2" Blaser vanes LH Helical 20" brass insert & total weight of 355 grs. Pic's show arrow weight, also the show the fps of 283 & shows dupl 4, which means the 4 shots that followed were exactly the same speed as the 1st. This session i was usin one of my dacron Flemish strings to get this speed.

Danny string 330 fps arrow 355 gr then it happen i liked to have turned my shootin table over tryin to get up from the shot! 224fps arrow 417 String broke  http://s15.photobucket.com/user/smokepo ... 0.jpg.html]Image

Hank you get to gatherin my friend. I actually can make 6 diff styles of Vixens. By usin 2 diff type limbs & 3 diff style Riser's. I plan on settin up my cast Riser Vixen wid both types of limbs & diff strings to see what it will do. Its the shortest model Vixen i own Mainframe rail is 17" in length. So it will be simular to the newer Vixen II but it won't use a Forward Riser as its too tall by an 1/8". I reckon i could have one of the 2 Forward Risers machined down .0100-.0125 to the rail deck ht.

Wow! That's the first factory Fast Flight string I've seen broken Mike! What happened to it? Couldn't be the bow because I know they don't break on an Exomax dry-fire.

Boo i jus think it was old & had been shot 1000-1500 times, maybe more. I had reserved it at least 3 times maybe as many as 5. We ferget the shock that happens when we shoot. Even tho a 200 lb models isn't as stout as a 225, those strings jus get fatigued. It was a clean break weren't no strands broken that were showin

I asked because when the foward riser came out the power stroke was reduced by 1/2" to 13 1/2" to keep the Vixen at 150 lbs. Thinking a 14" stroke (17 3/8" rail) and a foward riser would put it in the Exocet 165/ Phoenix 175 area,...283 fps with Dacron and 355 grain arrow is dandy indeed just seems high as I could only squeeze 287 fps with a 325 grain arrow, 32 strand EL Fast Flight Spectra string and a 14" power stroke. Good luck.
The Deerhide Brn Vixen in either 05 or 06 or both was Forward Riser & 14" rail. They switched somewhere about 07 or 08 to the 13.5" rail & then came out wid the Vixen II. Rest assured i will be testin my old 17" cast Risered Vixen wid the carved tip limbs in the next few days. All i can do wid it is change limbs, as the straight & Forward Risers are to tall fer its rail. My E'cet 165 is 17 7/8" rail length.

More shots n Chrony Data Vixen wid Forward Riser 17 3/8" rail & a 628 gr arrow shot 237 fps!
I am shootin 5 shots per arrow & so fer haven't had anything other than exact duplicate fps showin on the shots. Cast Riser 17" rail carved tip limbs my dacron string Brace Ht at 1" & it really maybe less than 150lbs. 218 fps arrow 628 gr. 250 fps arrow 415 gr. 252 fps arrow 407 gr & last is the 263 fps wid arrow 355 gr. Thats all the time i had to shoot today. My next session i will put on mag tip limbs on the cast Riser. I will use the dacron string also my D97 string & a 452x string. Then i will get out Marie Laveau & her straight Riser & run all 3 strings & mag tip & carved tip limbs on her
