Snake stops the hunt

Post by kd8jgu »

Last night finally get the wife out to hog hunt.
She is dead on with the Vixen.
Arrive at pasture can hear hogs off in the pines south of the field.
Sneak in get her near her blind.
I start to work my way to my blind.
All I hear is a earth stopping scream.
My wife has a very bad leg and I see her in a sprint.
I hit the sot light to make sure there is no hog chasing.
I finally get up to her to find out she thinks she seen a snake.
Now the hogs are in Arkansas.
So I guess wait until she gets another night she can go out.
(It was a grass snake)
May my aim be true and my arrow fly straight

I'd be ok with a snake, but don't wave a spider in my face!

She just informed me I have to go out and get a new pair of snake proof boots.
Before I think of going back to hunting spot.

Yep the closest Iever came to a divorce in forty odd years. I got a grass snake a little close to Mrs. and all h$11 broke loose. Never again will I not respect anyone's fear of snakes, harmeless or not. "lesson learned".

I dont like snakes. Period. They always scare the dickens out of me at first sight. This has made archery season and spring turkey season less fun than they should have been in the past. About three or four years ago I went to Cabelas to get something for spring turkey season, and they had a sidewalk sale going on.The sale was all boots of different kinds. I found some Rocky snake boots in my size at an unbelievable price. They were the older style withe laces that are about 10 ft. long and somewhat a pain, but were comfy and a real bargain. You just cant believe how much better I feel in the woods in warm weather when I wear these. It takes the "what if I dont see it" factor out of the equation, and puts my mind much at ease, and lets me enjoy what I'm there for.
With all that being said, maybe a small investment in a pair of boots would get your wife back out in the woods with you.Just a thought.
