Re: New cooler
1" to 1'5 insulation really improves cooling efficiency to a cooler.

Re: New cooler
Sounds like you have the ice and cooler issue under control, Very smartOnt_Excal wrote:On hunting and fishing trips, we use Coleman or Igloo coolers.
When in the bush for 7 days or more we bury the cooler up to the lid.
Place a piece of cardboard over top and cover with moss.
And leave the drain hole open.
7 days in the bush without issues.
Most coolers will do the job at hand with a little bit of help.

Re: New cooler
Years ago when I did the Rendevous thing, you were supposed to be "period" in dress and all camp stuff. Some of the folks got away with ice chests by building a crate like box to put the ice chest in.Some one figured out that since you had the box to protect the out side you could get by with one of the styrofoam ice chests which were cheap. Then someone found some styrofoam chests that they use to ship frozen foods that were about 2" plus thick. These held ice really well.( the air shipping places have these for sale I think) With all this said I bet Norms idea works like a champ!

You got that right. I can suck that first cold one down so fast that the can collapses and the paint falls off the can.rayman wrote:Must have been a tall boy.enormous wrote: I think I only had 1 beer during my hour long project...can't remember.

Re: New cooler
I have a number of friends who have Yeti coolers. From what I have seen, Yeti cooler are possibly the best coolers on the market.
If you will be using your cooler often, for long periods, many times a year and can afford the cost - then they are well worth the price.
However, if you only use you cooler occasionally, for short durations (3-5 days each use), and seasonably like I do, then you might be better served with a less expensive cooler and keep it full of ice.

I use a cheaper cooler and put that money to fishing and hunting gear that I use year round.

Re: New cooler
I noticed the Academy ad in todays paper had Igloo Maxcold 152 qt. chests for 79 bucks. You could buy a few of them for what that Yeti costs. The Maxcold line holds ice pretty well.
