Serving problems

Post by Masboy »

I don,t know what,s going on  my servings using .026 angel majesty are not lasting here lately. I wore out two today one on each string. I got less than 100 on each serving. I have them real tight an no separation at all . my latches are highly polished an no overcooking. I wax them good an turn them around soon as I see so dents in them. they just get dented about three strands wide on each side an get real flat an slick looking then wear thru an fray a strand . this is on my vixen an same for my vortex. I use to get a lot more an don,t know what's going on. I feel the .026 angel sting by sliding it thru my fingers an it feels rough . thinking mabey I got a spool of bad serving??? ready to try another spool or different serving. on my endloops I use .018 an have not had a serving wear out or seperate yet . was thinking mabey serve one with the.018 an see how it does?

Frank, the first time a serving goes on a newly made string it needs to be tight to squeeze out the wax. Subsequent servings should be put on with far less tension.
With time the first serving will force out the wax and the tension on the serving relaxes to where it should be. Back off a bit on the serving tool.

Are the backs of your nocks nicked up from other arrows being near robin hoods? those nicks can chew on a serving pretty quick. Just a thought.

Mike, when I pull through to finish off the back serve I always break off 0.026. Sometimes I even break Halo!
If Angel is on too tight it will break. I use it on my endless loop strings all the time and had several test string servings snap on the first couple of shots until I backed off the tension. Same goes with the 0.035" Angel.

These strings have been served many times an I been putting them on real tight so I will try backing off some. These arrows never get shot more than one to a target :D I am shooting plastic nocks now without problems I think! the servings wearing right at both claws.
Thanks guys!
