String Wax Question

Post by BoltCutter »

So all I have is a tube of cheap rock hard string was, that you use by rubbing up and down the string. Is this going to be ok for my Excal string or will it damage it more than anything?

Also the Excalibur Ex Lube, can this be applied to the whole string or is it just for the centre serving of the string?

Thanks :D

So you ask 10 different people and you get 10 different answers or products. Who is to know what is the right answer. If the man Danny Miller says no wax on the serving but the manufacturer says yes, who do you listen to. Very confusing indeed for those of us that are pretty new to this hobby.

Only problem here is Danny Miller makes ALL the Excalibur strings for Excalibur. He is the manufacturer. And Boo (Don Katsumi) who makes the best Flemish strings for Excalibur bows says to wax them.

I shoot mostly Boo's strings so I use Daltons wax on my strings and servings. But I also wax Danny's strings too. :D

What VM said!

Believe the no wax on the center serving is to help prevent wax build up in your trigger assembly. So if a guy like me cleans the trigger assembly with denatured alcohol or something similar on a semi regular basis, I should be good, maybe, sorta, kinda   and yes I wax my center serving with Bohnin or even String Snot every few hundred shot.

What i do personally is when i make a string i put Daltons or Bohnin gn tubed seal-tite wax on the center servin once. I don't put anything but pure beeswax on string if it really needs after 400 shots. I rag rub jigaloo on my rail instead of rewaxin the servin

I'm going with no lube on the rail and no wax on the serving and see if the serving holds together better than the first string. Then i'm going with a flemish string from Xcaliber. After hearing people talk about danny Miller i'm going with his info!

Danny says " No Wax " because he was also Excals US warranty place for many years and didnt like getting bows back with trigger problems because someone used LOTS of wax on their string OFTEN, and inside of trigger would be full of wax and crap that stuck to the wax. You can over do it . However Sumner ran some tests a while back and serving life was extended with wax.Me thinks a little wax a good thing. jmho

Mrs shoot's a compound crossbow, they advise string wax every 25-30 shots, rail lube every 10-20 shots, granted the string sets a bit lower on the rail so it rides right on it with a bit of "downward" pressure. It's hard on serving's for sure.

I lube the Exocet rail every once in a while, maybe 50-75 shots with Venom rail lube.

Yea I know what everyone means diffrent people different answers. I was told by a very reputable bow dealer wax on string, scorpion venom on rail and center serving every 50-75 shots. Been doing that ever since I got my excalibers and have had no problems. I am really unsure which is correct but I have had zero problems.
